I am seeking support care for my 80-year-old mother with peritoneal dialysis (PD) and regular catheter exit-site cleaning and care in exchange for a great place to live. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is reliable, methodical, wants to strengthen their skills and receive FREE housing! I am open and very flexible with the schedule, making it easy for you with a full time class load and/or job. Students and healthcare professionals are strongly encouraged to apply!!!
Responsibilities include:
-Performing peritoneal dialysis connecting support using germ-free techniques
-Regular catheter exit-site cleaning and sterile wound care
-Very minimal pet care (feeding the dog or letting them out into the backyard for a quick supervised potty break, very infrequent)
Full training will be provided, but you must be extremely detail-oriented and able to follow strict aseptic techniques, including identifying any contamination and responding appropriately. _______________________
The Living Space
The Eastmoreland neighborhood is located right by Reed College and is one of Portland’s most desirable neighborhoods. Easily access 2 bus lines (#19 and #75), the orange Max line, walk to New Seasons, and many restaurants and shops in Woodstock and Sellwood.
You’ll be living on the top floor of the house, which includes two bedrooms and a bathroom. You will have your own bedroom and an almost private bathroom. The second bedroom is a guest room and is only used occasionally, so the space is typically completely private and very quiet.
The house has three floors in total. My mother and I live here along with our spunky yellow Lab, a tiny senior Chihuahua and a spicy three-footed cat.
-On-site laundry
-Free street parking
-Fiber high speed internet included
-Some storage space available for things like a bicycle or sporting equipment

If you’re interested please respond with:
-A short introduction about yourself and why this exchange is a good fit
-Any relevant experience with healthcare, caregiving, and/or dialysis
-Your class schedule and/or work schedule
-Ideal start date/move in date
I will contact people to schedule a brief phone or video conversation. Final candidates will be invited for an in-person meeting at the home and asked for 3 references (professor, supervisor or previous employer). Also, to make sure everything is clear, respectful and safe, I will conduct a background check and we will sign a written agreement. This will outline expectations, responsibilities, and the housing terms (it combines a standard rental agreement with a caregiving agreement).
Thank you for your interest and I am looking forward to hearing from you!
