Impact of the Clan Charge is dealt with in four ways. Firstly all charging units recieve a +1 Charging bonus on their die rolls when calculating the number of hits inflicted, second Highland troops will typically have a Melee CV of 4, versus a CV of 3 for Lowland / Regular troops. The Melee Combat Value factor indicates the number of dice thrown by a unit to determine the number of hits inflicted. Third Clansmen line up two ranks deep, thus they have automatic supporting stands when determining combat results - they are less likely to loose the melee and finally Highlanders are exempt from the effect of fire when closing for melee in the first round of the melee. To balance this prowess at hand to hand combat, you will notice that Government troops typically have a higher Shooting Combat Value, meaning that they can potentially stop a Highland charge by firing alone.
