classes
It doesn't look like many people read this forum, but I couldn't find a contact email on the website, so I write in the hopes of reaching someone who can inform me of a few things. Firstly, are classes only offered on Mondays? I heard from someone that there were clases offered Monday, Wednesday, Friday...is that true? Secondly, is there an audition required for admittance/placement in the company? And also, what are the performance opportunities for the company? Do you guys do an annual Nutcracker or spring concert or what? Please write back; I'd really like to know so I can decide whether to join up or to find an area studio at which to dance. Thanks! |

I've emailed this response, but just to be sure: We have classes on Mondays from 8-9 pm. Interested group members can sign up to be part of the teaching rotation so a balance of Cecchetti, RAD, and Vaganova training is offered. We also have rehearsals Sundays from 2-4pm. There are free ballet classes offered by the university on Tuesdays and Thursdays (a professor from Peabody Conservatory comes to teach) from 3-4 pm (although the times are technically still subject to change). The Ballet Company is relatively new. Because of that, we currently are not audition-based and will not be performing at the Orientation Show. However, if you're interested you can come to see us at the Fall Dance Showcase (times will be provided in your Orientation booklet. Ah, I'm working under the assumption that you're a freshman). There will be numerous opportunities for performance as many student dance groups and a capella groups host showcases in the spring, and invite us to perform with them. There are also charity performances that are very well attended, including Hopkins Got Talent, and So You Think You Can Dance themed events. We're also looking into doing selections from the Nutcracker in a Winter Dance Showcase with another new group some friends and I formed last year called Jaywalk (A jazz and lyrically based group with a heavy emphasis on advanced and challenging technique. Let me know if you're interested and I can give you more information on that as well). |
