Rules for Using this Forum & Communicating with Me

First, I apologize for having to say this but I guess I do....

This forum is provided as a free service by UGotGlass as a way of communicating with our customers and facilitating the free exchange of enthusiasm and information. We do reserve the right to limit or deny access to those we feel are confrontational, abusive or objectionable in any way based on our personal opinion. It's my dime afterall.

All I ask is that visitors to this board treat each other and ME with respect, kindness and understanding. Email and other text based communications forums are not the same as face to face discussions and often words can be misconstrued. Go with the assumption that the person 'talking' has the best possible intention.

If you feel you have been insulted please email me and I will review the message and remove it if necessary.

This website provides a large percentage of our family income. I believe in the free exchange of information but please don't list sources of items we sell that could detract from our livelihood. I think you can understand this....

On a personal note:

I have had an ignorant, objectionable and insulting email sent to my personal email address with a bogus return email address. If anyone feels the need to discuss something with me feel free to email me but do so in a way that allows me to respond. To do otherwise is cowardice.

For those who know me you may recall that both Greg and I were programmers and technology executives prior to our current incarnation as glass artists. Needless to say I am often able to track down folks with very little information so I'm 99% sure I know who this person is. I was born at night but it wasn't last night.

I can and will ban individuals for improper behavior.

Re: FIre polishing question

Hi Nan --I have an Evenheat PMC kiln (small). I have fused glass pendants and then used my grinder on the sides to make even all around -- I then put in kiln to fire-polish. My I kiln melts the glass at 1550-1600 -- how long should I fire polish -- should my temp be around 1300-1350? I tried it at 1100 but it did not fire polish the sides that were ground. If high try to fire polish at 1300-1350, do you think it would begin to melt the glass. I am at a complete loss. Thanks

Re: Rules for Using this Forum & Communicating with Me

No problem. You'll have to test your kiln for the perfect fire polish temp and hold time and this may actually change depending on what you are doing but in general I have found that fire polishing in a kiln that full fuses at 1540 is 1400..... so try 150 degrees below your full fuse.... do it with test pieces so you don't ruin your work.... it's like putting salt in the soup... you can add more but you can't take it out... so fire polish LOWER than you think as you can always increase the temp and/or hold time and try again but if you over fire you're in the soup!!
