Super Spray

Hi all: I noticed devitrification on some of my jewelry pieces. I puchased Fuse Master Super Spray and it says to paint or spray on glass liberally. It does not say whether you need to spray on both layers of glass or just the top layer. It also says that you can use it after firing, but it does not say whether you need to refire. HELP! Thanks in advance.

Re: Super Spray

Let me ask this: are u using Bullseye fusible glass? The reason I ask is that BE glass is chemically designed to resist devit. I have been fusing for over 10 years and rarely get devit. Most of the people who come to me thinking they have a devit problem actually have a 'dirty glass' problem. In almost every case it was a matter of not cleaning the glass well enough after grinding.

Super Spray only needs to be on the top layer. I believe you have to refire.

Re: Super Spray

Hi Nancy, thanks for responding. I am not sure if it was Bullseye glass. The glass is clean. The film is all around the top edge of the glass and it happened on the black, green and some of the red.

Re: Super Spray

It may well be devit and a spray overglaze of some sort (like Spray A) will keep this from happening. To get rid of it you can sand it down with diamond sanding pads or wet dry sandpaper and then fire polish.

Sorry for the delay in responding; got very busy and let the board lag a bit...

Re: Super Spray

Hi Nancy. Thanks for that answer. I will definitely sand these pieces and refire them. I thought that I would not be able to use them.

Re: Super Spray

You can almost always rescue a piece in some way.... even if you just hit it with a hammer and recycle in a mold...LOL....
