pmc and glass

Hi Nancy and Greg!

First off, I must thank you for all of the wonderful tips, techniques, products and services you have been providing me! I am a certified PMC artist and was just looking to make my own cabs...but what a glass fusing monster I have become! Thank you, its such fun every time I open up my kiln!
My question involves PMC3 and unfused glass. I am thinking that I would like to make a sort of "donut" out of PMC, fire it and then stack some art and dichro inside the donuts' hole and fire to full fuse. Would this crack the glass if I leave enough room for the molten glass to move? I (kinda) understand the heat conduction differences between metal and glass but am trying to come up with a way to have the strongest piece of metal...
Thanks again for everything! I love you guys!!

Re: pmc and glass

Hi:

I have taken some pieces of unfired glass and just added them on top of some PMC and just make a little ring around the edges with a syringe and they worked fine. Technically you should be able to do what you're asking but you'll have to play with it and heat and cool extra slowly to avoid cracking. My gut is that it won't be super strong as there will always be some tension where the glass touches the metal. To strengthen it you might consider addding some little prongs at the front and back (little silver balls would work fine - or a more decorative element) in a few places where the glass and metal touch.

LUCK,
Nan
