Ellen !
Oh, MY! *fanning with my hands* Where is that 'cold shower' emoticon ?
Rennee, dearest, you should have warned ud !
It seems she enjoyed the lesson - of course she is also inclined to do so for the improvement of her mind.
Don't you think, dear Ellen, she is in great need to learn to play billiard ?
AFterall, one should find means to amuse oneself during long harsh Derbyshire' winters....
Ma puce, I did warn you... but you just wouldn't listen!
Rush over to Ellen G's pages and savour her delicious short story "The Lesson"... Do not forget your fans, ladies, I repeat... do not forget your fans!
Lovely. And is anyone else thinking about the scene in "Young Frankenstein," when Teri Garr invites Gene Wilder to join her as she rolls in the hay, crying "Roll in the hay, roll in the hay!"
Funny, yes, but it lacks the eroticism of your vignette.
After reading this, I only regret one thing: Why didn't I read this at work, where I have air conditioned ? Two fans are not enough!!! I'll have to take a cold shower right now (which will be doubly good, as it's summer where I live... )
By the way, what is exactly a 'roll in the hay'? can you write another vignette explaining it in more detail, dearest Ellen?
Oh, my, Maria Teresa, I'm such an American I never think that some readers might not understand a particular colloquialism. In this case, you've missed the last joke.
A "roll in the hay" is, as Dictionary.com so succinctly puts it: "an instance of sexual intercourse."
That is a very funny scene! No, I wasn't thinking of it at the time, but I'll admit it adds an additional element of humor that I didn't intend.
By the way, for anyone who cares, I'm preparing a "prequel" to this story...wherein Darcy first realizes what a turn-on it is to think of Elizabeth as still being "Miss Bennet."
I did have an idea of what 'a roll in the hay' was, since I saw that expression used in that sense several times (without actual hay being involved). But yes, I never took the trouble to look up its meaning in a dictionary (as well as the meaning of many other words and idioms that I didn't know), so thank you! I believe that now I can understand Lizzy's joke fully.
Anyway, all of that doesn't mean I didn't enjoy the vignette, because I loved it! Thanks, for sharing your talent ,and for your great patience with clumsy readers like me!!

1. We ALL care...!
2. Anything written from the pov of Mr Darcy by a talented author like you is sheer delight.
Rita, since you asked:
I was tickled, of course, to be approached. I'm an advertising copywriter by trade, but I've never gotten as much satisfaction out of anything else I've written as I get from my FF. But I have to tell you, given the nature of "The Lesson," I was also rather embarrassed. I mean, I can't talk about my work with my teenagers, and I don't even want to tell my parents! My husband is so proud that I am going to be a "published author," he wants to tell everyone...but he's never read the story (or anything else I've written for that matter), so he doesn't really understand why I'm reluctant to discuss it at a dinner with friends and our high-school age children.
The editor promised to send a copy of the paper, and I'm not sure I can even bring myself to read it.
Oh! Ellen!! LOL I'm am SO feeling your dilemma. Well, you can share your joy with us because we are so very proud of you! You can talk about it with us all you want.
Ellen, this is absolutely wonderful news!!!! Congratulations!!!! And I completely understand how you'd feel about "relatives" finding out. My husband knows what I write but I wouldn't want my mother to ever read my stories!!!
Regardless, be very proud of yourself! You deserve it.
Tracey: Given the nature of your stories , I can see how you'd sympathize!
Kim: Since "The Food of Love" was intended as the prequel to "The Lesson," you've actually read it in the proper order. I hope it had the desired effect!
Elizabeth continued without breaking stride. If she thought it odd that her husband called her by her maiden name, she did not remark upon it. Indeed, there had already been three other times during their brief marriage in which he had done the same. In each case, the phrase was no mere slip of the tongue; it was expressed quite deliberately, she had soon discovered...as the prelude to some new experience of a decidedly carnal nature.
Three other times? Dare we hope this means you'll write two more prequels, in addition to "The Food of Love"? Please? Pretty please? Pretty please with cream and sugar on top?
Oh yes yes yes...more prequels...I talked my husband into reading "Food for Thought" on our anniversary and, well, life just got better!! Congrats and pleassse give us more!
The food of Love, honey, not for thought.(Inspired after Elizabeth's proclamation that poetry is not the food for love, retorting to Darcy's comment that it was) Anyway,I guess that "thinking" was the last thing you guys did, after reading it!
I'm so glad that you (and others!!!) have been enjoying my vignettes. They are, after all, good, dirty fun. I certainly could write another prequel...in fact, Julie L had a good suggestion in using a return to the Parsonage, and I even started writing such a story in my head while on vacation.
BUT...
I am concerned that Mrs. Darcy's readers could start to tire of these stories, if there are too many of them, once the novelty wears off. So if there is enough demand -- perhaps, say, from "six accomplished women"? (to suggest a number that for some reason just popped into my head) -- I would be delighted to comply.
Let's put it to a vote: Shall I write another? Likewise, if the idea is beginning to bore you, or you think it's just too much of a good thing, let me know, and I'll take the hint. Do let me know, ladies.
Thanks for the vote of confidence, KayakChick, Gio, Michelle, and Rita. Now, if I were to count Melissa and Frances as well, I would have my six accomplished women. There have been no "nay" votes. Perhaps I should just go ahead....
