Ladies and Gents, Mrs. Darcy's got a major surprise for you. Elena's modern retelling of P&P with a yummy Mark Darcy and an ever so witty and dynamic Eliza Quayle will steal your hearts!

You'll find the first two chapters here

Enjoy!

Re: Blind Date by Elena

Thank you girls. I see now that writing modern is fun too.

The thing is that one must be more aware of the idiomatic expressions and phrasal verbs that are so common in informal English. After two years thinking formal, Regent English it is quite a challenge!
Chapters 3 to 5 are in the hands of a nice British lady who has agreed to proofread it for me. Wish me luck!!

Re: Blind Date by Elena

Yes, it is great !Isn't it? Problem is the whole register still smells more Dickens than Le Carre, so much for modern stuff. Well. That is because I have been doing so much research to sound oldish and imitate Regency English, which in the long round ended up not being that nor the other.

I am very much enthusiastic with this one. This Mr Darcy is so unlike the others!Yet, just as Fitzwilliam he will be swept by the tornado of Elizabeth's enticing character.Angst will EVENTUALLY come , of course, because

Yet, I'm planning to entertain you with smooches and tender moments better than anguished ones.Let us see if I can do that!!!!

WOW! This story took some turns I wasn't expecting. He seems really old for her. Some of their interactions at her apartment were funny, like when she called her bottom fluffy and when he wanted some privacy in the bathroom. Looking forward to the next chapter. Cindy

Re: Blind Date by Elena

Darcy is out of his element and he is in serious trouble...I hope Lizzy isn't hurt because she seems to see no obsticles with a relationship with him and he keeps thinking she's too young for him, even tho he's not exactly running for the hills or refusing her charms!

Do we get a happy ending Eli??

I'm having trouble accessing Chapter 6. Every time I click on the link on the updates page, it just brings me to the end of Chapter 5. Maybe I'm the only person having this problem, others seem to have read Chapter 6. I'm eager to see what the cliffhanger is going to be!

Re: Blind Date by Elena

Now you got us Eli! the very first person came to my mind was Lizzy...that Darcy might hv left his house key and license with address at her place. But then again, if it is so, how did he get into his own apartment in the 1st place?

Since you indicated we never guess who he/she is, i will have to hang around mrs darcy's very frequently!

Re: Blind Date by Elena

Eli, since you said that we would never guess, maybe is Lady Catherine or Anne! hahahaah
I'm pretty sure is not Caroline, I doubt she can cook!
Great history, post soon, please!!!

Re: Blind Date by Elena

Ok Eli...since it isn't one of the "usual suspects" it must be an old girlfriend/ex-wife/lover or his mother (not canon but it'll work). I really hope Lizzy doesn't get hurt, altho knowing you it would probably be Darcy who gets his heart broken!!

Keep the surprises coming!

Frances

Re: Blind Date by Elena

Ttrue, true...since the person in question can cook it is hardly feasible it is Caroline.
I'll give you some clues...He/she got into the house but he/she had not the keys with him/her. He/she was in the original Austen's PP alive, so discard Darcy's mother. Darcy was perplex to see him/her in his kitchen, but the dog seems to like him/her...
Now...have you thought how come that this person got in without having his own keys to the house? SmileyCentral.com

Re: Blind Date by Elena

Eli, Love this story too!!! I think Darcy's guest is his sister. After talking to him on the phone I bet she was curious as to where he had been so late and decided to come down and surprise him with breakfast and to pump him for info on what he had been up to. Well am I right?

Was that a slip on the end when you said "his own keys"?
Could it be Richard? He would want a big breakfast. Hmmmm

Wickham?!
