Here we go again. I'm not sure I can take it a second time. Poor Darcy being teased. I can see where this would make him want to act more like a man. And Fitzwilliam. Is Elizabeth going to catch him in his deceitfulness this time? Please post soon!!! Thanks, Cindy

WOW, that Lizzy is something else. What a flirt! She IS a little minx. I can't help myself, I still don't like the colonel too much either. However, he did ask Darcy if he wanted Elizabeth and Darcy said "no" at first. So, there you go. I can tell this story is going to keep us all on the edge of our seats. Please post soon and thanks, Eli and Renee, for the weekend treat. Cindy

Eli, I am glad that you decided to post this story on Mrs. Darcy's site. I do not go to many other P&P sites because I am spoiled with the ease of use at this site. Thanks again Renee and Eli!!!

Re: Nothing Between Us by Elena

My dearest Eli, finally I found some time to start reading your new story properly. And OMG, I'm having fun with it. Your Mrs Entertainment extraordinaire!

The first chapter made me think of one of Jean de la Fontaine's fables, Les Deux Cocqs.

It starts like this:

Deux Coqs vivaient en paix : une Poule survint,
Et voilà la guerre allumée.

Two roosters lived peacefully together until a hen emerged... It was war immediately...

women are to blame of all men's discord, right?

Your colonel sure as hell is bad news!

Renée <-- off to read on!

MAN ELI! Do you HATE BINGLEY or WHAT?!!!
RAM

Sep 26th, 2007 - 11:00 PM
Re: Nothing Between Us by Elena

For some reason I kind of get a kick out of how you make Bingley look like such a dope in your stories! It's not that I've ever disliked the guy before, but it's as if you've somehow uncovered the inner buffoon hidden beneath the character flaws which in Austen's rendering were forgivable and even charmingly innocent. I don't know how you do it, but you make us actually want to break up Jane and Bingley because we're lead to feel that Jane can do better! That's quite a feat. The only thing to top it would be to make us root for Colonel Fitzwilliam over Darcy in the contest for Elizabeth's affections. But I don't think even you could make that happen. I'm still pulling for Darcy, and I'd be interested in seeing what your other readers think. Perhaps you should take a poll?

Re: Nothing Between Us by Elena

You know if Bingley had a brain he might be dangerous and if Jane would open up and not be such a prude she would be able to write a clear and concise letter.

And now Lizzy is going to think that the Colonel is the one that found Lydia and Wickham.

What a confused and tangled mess your characters have weaved for themselves. How are you ever going to get the right couples together?

Wonderful writing, but I just want to give them all a swift kick in the butt to open their eyes.

Thank you
Mo

Re: Nothing Between Us by Elena

I quite dislike Lizzy's character in this story. It varies much from the canon.
It's like it is Lydia, thoughtless of hurt she causes with such behavior, her only pursuit is having fun, her only feelings being mirth and from time to time pity (not too deep, mind you).
The change in main character – from Lizzy to Lydia – is especially to be perceived when comparing her present behavior with her being unaware of gentlemen war at pianoforte at Rosings.
As much as the suitors are enjoying themselves, she is playing with their feelings quite cruelly. I hope both men will communicate somehow with each other, find out she doesn't care for either (for if she did she wouldn't hurt at least this one by being unfaithful) and they will both forsake her. I don't wish such girl on any of them. I wish for her to be left without any marriage prospect, just as she deserves.

Re: Nothing Between Us by Elena

I have already done that. If you do not believe me take a look at the comments for LCT. I guess I can do it again, now. Would you like to take a wager?

I beg to differ. You never convinced me in LCT that Elizabeth should choose Fitzwilliam over Darcy. I was always rooting for Fitzwilliam and Jane. You're writing for a website called Mrs. Darcy for crying out loud! Elizabeth and Darcy are one of the most beloved couples in English literature. You might just as soon tag a happy ending onto Hamlet as try to partner these two off with anyone else. Such an endeavor would be futile and would necessarily contort the characters and plot beyond all recognition of the original novel upon which your story is based.

And aside from this, as your story currently stands, I don't see how you can credibly make the reader want to see Elizabeth (hereafter abbreviated to E) choose Fitzwilliam (F) over Darcy (D). You've already portrayed D as being willing to suffer any humiliation to win E's hand, and you've shown F to be willing to employ ruthless deceit (i.e. publishing a false marriage announcement) to win E. Who sounds like the better man? You can only backtrack by making D do something so out of character as to render him unrecognizable from Jane Austen's character (and likewise for E and F).

So, yes, I'll take that wager. But I sincerely hope you won't make it!

Mmmm. Let us see how the story goes on, and then you tell me. So you were pinning for F and J to end up together? At least I was able to successfully pair two out of canon!

Re: Nothing Between Us by Elena

The confusion is killing me & Bingley. He is so st.. I'm reading the comments above I'm hoping the Darcy will end up with E. After all the author can do anything she wants. That's why this is so nerve wracking, the not knowing.

Wow, this chapter didn't waste any time pairing everyone up. Everyone except Jane and someone. Poor Darcy. Those thin lips. I'm sure this story is going to get verrrrrry interesting. Thanks for the post. Cindy

Re: Nothing Between Us by Elena

Well, that is quite a turn up for the book.
Poor Darcy, still he didn't have to say yes to Ann, much misery ahead for him I think. Not much more happiness for Elizabeth either, I hope she will be true to Her Colonel, he deserves nothing less at least he was brave enough to claim her.
I wonder where you will go from here. I am looking forward to more.

Ok this has got to be a bad dream, SmileyCentral.comthe part about Darcy that is. Is Darcy as stupid as Bingley now, Taking Anne as his wife again.
This has got to be a real bad dream.
I'm Ok with Richard and Lizzy ending up together but If this is truely not a dream then why oh why is Lizzy pining for Darcy, he left her high and dry after Lydia's infamous scandal. But Richard is the one that kept in touch with her and came straight back to her after his tour of duty to ask for her hand in marriage. WAKE UP LIZZY!!!!!!!
Great story Eli please tell me there is more.

Re: Nothing Between Us by Elena

he left her high and dry after Lydia's infamous scandal
I would not be so sure about that. Indeed, he did not return...yet not because he was ashamed of her situation. Rather, he felt guilty, both of Lydia's fate for he never warned the family about Wickham and also he knew there was reason to fear that he was also guilty of having separated Bingley from jane for good, though he is not sure why.

As regards Anne...I think LC found him off guard, thinking that his life had no sense without Lizzy and well...one woman was just as well as any other, and better if he could make his mother wish come true and so on and so forth.

But this story, unlike many others, does not finish with a wedding or two. On the contrary, it finishes with a wake.
