Hi, My Uncle by marriage, Laurence Richard Dowdall served in Malta from about 1878. His wife Hibernia Dolores gave birth to a second daughter, Julia Francis on the island. Laurence was appointed paymaster in about 1880. He rose to the rank of lieutenant Colonel. He died in 1908 in England. The 1891 English census reveals that the daughters Dolores (Lola) and Julia were scholars and boarding at the Rectory in Leicestershire. I presume that the parents were perhaps still in Malta at this time. I would be grateful for any further information about their lives in Malta.
