High Raymond,
I wish to answer for the word "Qarrax,Qarrac" being identified: In Algeria Kabilya,we use the exacte verb for the exacte meaning:"cut" hair.
I think, it is derived from the root QR of "Qarrw", which means head in berber.
From the same root we have the verb "Qrwrc": exterminate, cut heads.
The particle "c" pronouced as "sh" of "ship" is made for litleness,
and all things which relate to the head coverings and hair as :
Cwca: hair cut at eyes level,
Cac: turban, rolled head wear,
TaCacit:north african head wear ( white or red).
Hope it will be useful for your search. Good will for the follow up.
I had to apreciate a visit to Valetta museum, sliema and ...Dry dock.
