A writer has the responsibility to be good, not horrible; true, not false; lively, not soft; accurate, not full of fallacy. He should tend to lift individuals up, not decrease them down. Authors do not merely reflect and analyze life, they advise and shape life. Writing has laws of perspective, of sunshine and shadiness just as illustration does, or theme. If you are born comprehending them, fine. If not, understand them. Then scramble the rules to work yourself. Certainly, understanding to write may be part of learning to read. For all I know, paper comes out of outstanding dedication to reading.
