Re: Re: Re: The Man From the Alamo

Hi Eric,
It was released on DVD, earlier this year, in a box set with 3 other westerns (with different stars). Since I haven't seen this particular DVD I can't comment on its quality or content. The only other DVD's I have seen of it have been Region 2. I, personally, haven't seen it billed on any channel (satellite) in years. The Westerns Channel listed it as a 'premiere', so with a listing like that I would say it doesn't get much air time here. Too bad since it is a good movie.

Hi Mike,
I purchased my dvd copy of 'The Man From The Alamo' a few months ago,my wife and I both enjoyed it, the picture quality is also very good.
I'm going to see the new version of '3.10 To Yuma' tomorrow,it's had some good reviews over here,I guess I'll be going with mixed feelings but if it helps to bring westerns back in favour then it will be a good thing.
I think your very fortunate to have a western channel in the States,I wish we had one in this country.
Regards
Eric.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: The Man From the Alamo

Hi Eric,
Yes, you are right, we are very lucky to have The Westerns Channel (my wife says it is the only channel our TV receives). I do love those old westerns!!! I would also like to see the 'new' 3:10 to Yuma, but I'm afraid I would have mixed emotions and might not give it a fair chance. I find the new movies kind of leave me cold, guess I'm not into all of the computer generated effects and having to work trying to figure out what the movie is about. The older movies seemed to be more interested in entertaining you, not making you work (of course I could just be getting lazy in my old age). I did enjoy Open Range and Monte Walsh (with Tom Selleck), I thought they were well made movies. I would be interested to hear your opinion after you see 3:10 to Yuma, as it will probably be a while before I see it. We live about 75 miles from the nearest theater, so it is almost a major trip to go there.
My best to you and yours,
Mike

Hi,Trooper Mike,
Sorry to take so long in replying to you I have not visited the site since my last contribution.I did enjoy the new version of '3.10 to Yuma'but prefered the old one,I felt Glenn Ford psyched out Van Heflin much more effectively than Crowe does with Bale.
By the way did you know that Christian Bale is Welsh like myself,ok that where the similarity ends!Who would have thought we'd have a Welsh cowboy.Ray Milland was another one.
I travelled about 50 miles to

see it as our local cinema (in which I'm a semi retired projectionist)as I'm afraid we won't be screening in our single screen cinema as it has not drawn the crowds in this country like it did in America. It only ran for a week in the multiplex where I saw it.
Best Regards
Eric.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: The Man From the Alamo

Hello Eric,
I was afraid the movie was so bad it had 'done you in', when there was no reply (just kidding)!!! I kind of figured it wouldn't be as good as the original (of course we are probably biased). I haven't heard anyone comment on it in our area. I'm not even sure it has played anywhere close. I guess I will wait for the DVD release, rent it and watch it at home. You are right in saying it would be hard to top Glenn and Van Heflin, they were so suited to their parts.
I am also retired, so I suppose us old retired guys think along the same lines!!! I enjoy your posts, hope we can converse again.
Take Care,
Mike
