Hospitals providing care for Berkshire patients allocated Government funding for key repairs
Hospitals providing for patients in Berkshire have been allocated Government funding to pay for key repairs.
During last year’s Autumn Budget, chancellor Rachel Reeves confirmed £750million in capital funding for 2025-26 to be spent on addressing ‘critical infrastructure and safety risks at NHS hospital buildings’.
St Mark’s Hospital in Maidenhead, Wexham Park Hospital in Slough, and the Royal Berkshire Hospital in Reading are among the hospitals receiving a share of this money.
At St Mark’s Hospital, the Berkshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust said the £2.6million in funding will be spent on addressing ‘various’ issues’, and the money will also go towards the relocation of the Jubilee Ward from Upton Hospital in Slough to St Mark’s.
A trust spokesperson said: “Berkshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust welcomes the recent award of £2.6million, which will help to address various maintenance issues at Mark’s Hospital.
“Alongside additional funding from the Trust, it will also go towards the relocation of Jubilee Ward at Upton Hospital in Slough, becoming a new, state-of-the-art, 21 bed facility at the Maidenhead site.”
Frimley NHS Foundation Trust said its £10.103million allocation will be spent on ‘several items’ across both Wexham Park and Frimley Park Hospital in Surrey.
This includes emergency call alarms, security systems, electrical distribution boards, heating systems, ward refurbishments, upgrading operating theatre air handling units and replacing non-compliant sinks.
James Clarke, chief strategy officer at Frimley NHS Foundation Trust, said: “We recently launched our new five-year strategy for Frimley Health, which includes major investments across all our sites.
