Wanted Friends of Cookham Abbey Community Engagement Manager (part time)
Sarah Parfitt has done a fantastic job in creating the role of Community Engagement Manager for Friends of Cookham Abbey over the last two years. Sadly for us, she has needed to relinquish the role.
We are therefore recruiting her successor. Could that be you (or someone you know)?
Our aim is to embed the results of the archaeology project in local communities through the Cookham Abbey Connects Project, funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund. The CEM will engage with groups face-to-face and through social media, building relationships and co-creating activities to build confidence and engage more people as learners, participants and volunteers. We want to extend the reach of the project to include people from minority ethnic backgrounds and people on low incomes who traditionally miss out on new experiences and donât feel archaeology is âfor themâ.
Key activities of the CEM role will be strategic development and delivery of engagement for the Cookham Abbey Connects project; building links with FCA members, University of Reading staff and students and other volunteers who will support workshops and presentations; and arranging and supporting delivery of public tours of the summer excavations and year-round presentations to local groups and organisations. A full description of the role will be provided on receipt of your expression of interest.
The work is part-time, with a budget of 60 days in a year, i.e. on average five days per month. This is a freelance contract (not employment by FCA) with flexible days and hours. There will be a need for occasional evening and weekend working. We expect that the workload will increase around the time of the dig season in July-August. The appointment will be for a fixed term, until August 2028. The daily rate for the contract is set at £200.
To apply for the position, please email me right away info@cookhamabbey.org.uk to express interest, following which I will send you the full role description. If you then wish to proceed, please email me your CV together with a short statement as to why you are interested and what skills, experience and motivation you think you can bring to bear. We would like to receive your CV and statement by 28th January. We plan to interview a short list of candidates in early February.
