wow thats really cool. i know in the book he sent it to kaufman and got it re-finished and put back together, but how did the body get split like that?

Kevin Kauffman is a Florida luthier and friend of Jaco who rebuilt the Bass of Doom in 1986 (or was it 85?). I thought it was lost sometime in 1986. If these photos were taken in 1987 then somthing is fishy here.
Were you just walking down 6th ave one day and saw a fender jazz in the street getting run over by a taxi? Where were these photos taken and how do you know for sure it was Jaco's? Was there a serial number on the headstock? You need to provide a little more detail when posting somthing so outragous.
jaco was living at #1 Lispenard with his bass roadie.
he retrieved it from the gutter
& brought it up to me
on 76th street to shoot it.
i was a friend of jaco
from 1985 to the end.
i will find the scan of the
serial number.
the serial numbers are on the neckplate,
not the headstock.
