"Ohio State University School of Music openened its 30th annual Jazz Festival last night for a four-day run. Audiences are treated to music by professionals as well as college and high-school students.
"We come together to celebrate this great tradition of jazz," said Ted McDaniel, director of jazz studies.
In its Saturday night concert, the Andy Woodson Band will offer a tribute to bassist and composer Jaco Pastorius, perhaps best-known for his work with Weather Report."

"Duduka and Alves: a Brazilian Musical Team's Delight of Discovery. Their new CD, Songs from the Last Century, is a delight throughout: fiercely played, intensely felt, daringly conceived.
Their version of "Three Views of a Secret," the jazz waltz by Jaco Pastorius, is played as a samba in 2/4 and features an impassioned solo by Woods and a string arrangement by Oscar Castro-Neves that embraces the quartet like a soft cocoon or luxuriant pillow."
