what a shame. how old was Hiram? very saddened to hear about this. I shared quite a few emails with him over the years. always a gentleman and cool cat in general.
The service was loving, the turn out more than they expected, of course the band of this clip was there, his family, Gil Evans' (RIP) wife Anita, and sons Miles and Noah, Gil Goldstein, Marcus Miller, and so forth... when done we took so long hugging and reminiscing that the Buddhist center had to give big nudges for us to leave, so we took it out into the street. Felix had flown in from CA, Julius, who now lives up there came of course, some folks we hadn't seen in ages, it was quite something. Hiram's sister told a funny and cute story about Hiram, apparently when he was a mere toddler he shook his crib so hard and for so long it actually fell apart...knowing and seeing his energy one can only imagine what he must have been like as a kid.
After the service some went to a private gathering where we shared, loved, cried, watched Hiram's videos, this loss is big.
