reappraising the "later" years

So wonderful, great till the sad end:

And then of course the historical earlier years, Jaco at 22:

Re: reappraising the

Great... I had pretty much sworn off any more Late-period Jaco, having heard the lion's share of sad recordings, but he his tone is perfect on this german show, sounding like himself 10 years earlier. And the Pooh's Pub show is great also.i have one show, and i know there are many recordings, but his "idea fountain" is in full flower (maybe beyond it!)Both gave me the requisite goosebumps I get when I hear the good stuff....

Wow. Just wow. this 86 Germany show will be in heavy rotation for a while. Comes in a close second to one of my faves....Standards Zone though Live in NY vol 2 (or, 4, can't remember....actually I think its both) is up there as well. So wonderful to hear his amazing channeled energy come through on that bass. He is just ripping all the while with virtuistic technique, swing, and feel as always. Glad I found this. What an amazing set.

Here is another later years entry -

There is a recording from the early show where the band's playing is much better, and Jaco does an exceptional solo. Still a fun show to hear.

Re: reappraising the "later" years

There is one tune missing from the gig
with Pat Metheny, and that is "All The Things You Are". Too bad, because Jaco's solo on that one
is in my opinion the highlight of the show.

Yep, can't write him off!
