This Monday, July 5th, we’ll present another “Happy Birthday” edition of our special feature, MONDAY WITH THE MASTERS on MOJA Radio. You’ll hear of his career beginnings growing up in Austria followed by his move to the USA where he began collaborations with artists like Miles Davis, Maynard Ferguson and Cannonball Adderley. You’ll hear how he, Wayne Shorter, Miroslav Vitous and others formed Weather Report, the group that helped define the Fusion era and included greats like Jaco Pastorius, and of course you’ll hear lots of his great music. Listen for MONDAY WITH THE MASTERS twice every Monday, at Noon Eastern/9 AM Pacific, with a replay Monday night at 9 PM Eastern/6 PM Pacific and since Wednesday, July 7th would have been his 78th birthday it a good time to remember the great JOE ZAWINUL!

LIVE @ MOJALand happens four times each week here on MOJA Radio as we invite you to join us inside the world’s only imaginary jazz club for rare, live performances by the biggest names in Modern Jazz. Listen Wednesday morning at 9 AM ET and again Wednesday night at 9 PM East/6 PM West, and twice again on Sunday at 11 AM & 11 PM ET, as part of the Sunday Specials. This week as we continue our week-long celebration of the birthday of JOE ZAWINUL, one of the all time greats of MOJA, we’ll present him at one of Fusion’s highest peaks with WEATHER REPORT LIVE IN MONTREUX 1976. In the Summer of 1976 Joe Zawinul, Wayne Shorter, Jaco Pastorius, Alex Acuna and Manolo Badrena took the stage at the old casino at the legendary Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland to play songs like “Barbary Coast,” “Elegant People” and “Black Market,” music that marked a pivotal point in their career which was one year before the creation of the breakthrough release “Heavy Weather.” Plus you’ll hear Joe’s comments about the band at this point in their history with some very personal, revealing thoughts. It’s a red hot performance by one of fusion’s greatest bands and we’ll take you there if you’ll join us for WEATHER REPORT LIVE IN MONTREUX 1976 on this week’s edition of LIVE @ MOJALand!
