With all the latest developments in politics and war saturated with conspiracy, treason, and lies...I think it's time to listen to some mid 80s Jaco, so as to debunk the lies, treason, and conspiracy about his playing at that time... :P
Regardless of the JoSchmos, WDs, BBs or anyone else's comments, I can only wonder whether any of them would have told Jaco in his face what they thought of his playing those days....no one playing today even compares to what he did 25 years ago, a year before his passing, perhaps there are some mere imitations out there.
This (the 1986 Kolpinghaus solo) is really an amazing piece of art!
I think the difference between Jaco and other bassplayers is that, besides being a great technical bassist (e.g. playing fast using exotic scales) Jaco was also very very musical. Playing scales up and down is one thing, make music with it is yet another thing!
Btw I always wondered whether the Continuum intro (of Invitation) was a once only piece of music. Now I hear he played it in a bass solo years later. Great!
