Oh, yes, Renee, I was going to comment on your thoughts. I think that's one of the reasons I liked Jennifer Ehle's portrayal of Lizzy -- she wasn't an awful singer, but the singing wasn't very trained, I would say the same about her piano playing. I thought that was really accurate for Lizzy.

I know I am bringing up another topic but my post above, where I included language from the novel, reminded me of 2 specific scenes/words that are in P&P the novel that I wish were in both the (2005) film and in P&P2 (1995).

As all of us here are well aware in P&P, in significant part, JA writes the story from Lizzy's perspective. In others words, we are much less frequently in Darcy's head. In both cases, the words I missed/wish were included were spoken by Darcy. See those words designated with asterisks** below:

1. "How could you begin [to love me]?" said she. "I can comprehend your going on charmingly, when you had once made a beginning; but what could set you off in the first place?"

RE, "A man who had felt less, might", anyone male female adult who has experienced love or child experiencing "puppy love" understands that statement completely.

Having said that, I believe I know why screenwriters left out those scenes/words. They likely felt that the post-proposal acceptance part of the novel was anti-climatic. Nevertheless, credit must be give to JA for the beauty and power behind those well crafted words she wrote for Darcy.

When I think of Darcy saying "A man who had felt less, might," I think of my first date with my husband. We met after I graduated college. I felt so much I could barely breathe. I remember that, rather than easily talking like I would speak to a friend or colleague, I had to script my words in my head before I spoke. I can still remember the first charming words he spoke to me when he first approached me and his smile in his beautiful face. I mumbled a few words back at him while looking serious. I couldn't think.

My husband is very handsome and Colonel-esque charming. Everyone loves him. He will carry on an animated conversation with anyone anywhere. When he came to my door to pick me for that first date, I could barely breathe. I did not know where to look or what to say. My husband is gregarious [Lizzy] while I am "Darcy." Imagine that.

I have from time to time thought that when people first meet us as a couple they think "Love him; hate her or don't get her/can't read her." He tends to do all the talking while I stand there. But, I believe I have gotten better at making an effort to converse with people I don't know. Like Darcy I had to practice. :)

It kind of portrays the fact that Lizzy is of a lower class than Darcy is.. and since class was such an important factor back then therefore the higher classes are better than the lower... I know that doesn't make much sense.. but the lyrics explain it better.

I re-watched the scene today, and tried to figure it out, but there's no mention of it in the credits, unfortunately. I don't know what it is. Anyone?

It's been quite some time since I watched the BBC P&P (shame on me), so I no longer remember if there are more than one scenes in which Georgiana is playing, however I did find a website that mentioned a scene in Pemberley where Georgiana was playing Andante Favore by Beethoven:)

Me again, had nothing better to do and did some more googling, and found out that the Andante Favore is from another scene entirely, and in the scene you were referring to Georgiana is playing the second movement from Muzio Clementi's Sonatina No.4. At least I think she is:)

I thought the Beethoven piece she played was after Lizzy sang Voi Che Sapete.

I became distracted by reading the postings and forgot I have a song to add to the dialogue. I thought THE BLUES seemed to fit Darcy after his hall of fame, horrendously bizarre proposal. For a time he gave up on love; but, then his hope was renewed when he met Lizzy at Pemberly. I've always thought the song "Wicked Game" by Chris Isaak a good representation of FD's feelings for E leading up to his proposal and immediately following. It's all about repressed desire and longing - all the things that can't be said in a regency novel but were running through his head the whole time. The song talks about how he doesn't want to fall in love with her but his desire leads him on. He also goes on to say that she is wicked for telling him she never felt the same for him (totally Hunsford to me). Anyway, here are the lyrics for anyone who has never heard of this oldie.

I don't know if you are gonna agree with me, but this song, well, at leat the first part of it, reminds me of P&P, when Lizzy doesn't see that Darcy is in love with her and looks at her to criticize!
