Re: Story recommendations

I bet you mean Alison's, Malena? She has two w.i.p's over there, both unfinished.

Re: Story recommendations

JUst recently I read a very nice story at AHA "May I introduce Mrs Thornton" for those who like to know what happened after John and Margareth leave together to Milton (North & South). The author, LisaKZ, has also written other worth reading stories, specially "Pemberly's heart and soul: the early years" (WIP), which I highly recommend.

This is the link for Mr & Mrs Thornton'story
http://meryton.com/aha/index.php?showtopic=2251

Re: Story recommendations

For the fans of North & South fanfiction this is great news. Thank you, Maria. Í know LisaKZ as a very enthusiastic and kind person, and even though I didn't read her stories myself, I bet they're delightful.

Re: Story recommendations

Just because it fits perfectly, another sugestion to the N&S fans:

Re: Story recommendations

I cannot help but share this with you Renée and all of you ladies, Mrs Darcy fans.
This wonderful story HAS to be read:

"He continued to inhale deeply while trailing small kisses slowly down the inside of her thigh. His breathing was now as ragged as hers and she could feel a slight trembling in his fingers as he continued to tease her. As he wrestled with his self-control, Elizabeth silently prayed he would not stop, for if he did she would surely explode and she had no wish to die for his lips had finally reached their destination. Her entire body shook as his tongue reached out to caress her quivering flesh.

“This tastes like fresh pears, ripened on the tree, drizzled with spring honey. This is your essence, ambrosia from the gods, water to a dying man. I was dying…inside…slowly allowing myself to become nothing more than a hollow shell, until you possessed me, filled me and made me whole. I am yours, Elizabeth, utterly and completely, and all I ask in return is this…”

Elizabeth braced herself, for she knew the moment he said that word, the word that he had referred to over and over but had not voiced, she would become undone. She would surrender more than just a part of her body, but all of her. She now understood that was his object all along. He wanted it all; every inch of her body, every corner of her mind and the depths of her very soul. Everything he had offered to her, he now wanted promised to him in return."

This story is called My B.F.F. (a/k/a A Beautiful Friendship)
Modern P&P by Ruth
and here is the link:

http://www.meryton.com/rutho/BFF.html

Hope you enjoy it as I do. It is complete, btw.
Renée perhaps you could consider inviting her to your site. She is a great writer.

Re: Story recommendations

That's what I call steamy, love!

Thanks for the recommendation. I know Ruth O, she's a lovely woman. I believe though that she already posts her stories on various sites. At the moment I don't have room for new authors. Perhaps in the future.

Re: Story recommendations

A story I absolutely adore right now is a WIP by Linda called Fate and Consequences. It is posted at A Happier Alternative - http://www.meryton.com/aha/

The writing is excellent, the plot is creative and refreshing, and it's just a beautiful portrayal of Elizabeth and Darcy. Highly recommended.

Re: Story recommendations

Thanks for the update Audrey, will check it out.

Re: Story recommendations

I would like to also highly recommend another story by Linda (booknut). It is called Chance Encounters, and is available on the Meryton website in the completed stories section. It is also available in book form on Amazon. It is a totally delightful and amazing story, one of the top five JAFF I have read.

Re: Story recommendations

hello^_^It's been a while but I've just finished this amazing fanfiction called 'Not every gentleman' and you can find it at

http://www.austen.com/derby/hele1c.htm

I think most of you will love it even if it's a bit...unconventional hihihi. However, if you'd like to read it, you should look sooner rather then later as the author told us she'd take it off the site in the coming days. It's posted on more sites but I don't know any of them so if I've raised your 'Darcy-radar' high enough let yourself be enchanted by the story of Edward and Elizabeth (Darcy is there all the way)

Re: Story recommendations

Thanks for the recommendations, my dears!

Re: Story recommendations

Recently I came across one story with an unusual plot and very nice, which I want to recommend:

"We can take what was wrong" by Alyson L.

E&D are already married and with several children...

Re: Story recommendations

Thanks for the recommendation. AlysonL is a well-known fanfiction author and posts her stories on DWG and Bennet Girls. She has written quite a few.

Re: Story recommendations

Hullo^_^ this fic I've found has a 'different' plot and I hope you will enjoy it! It's called
'The fortune he ought to have'
and while it seems backward for the Darcy/Elisabeth fans, don't worry and go until the end where everything will be revealed!!!

Re: Story recommendations

hullo agai...it seems that I've found the time to read many new stories and I'm glad for it!^_^ Here's another one for our pleasure!

'Chance Encounters'

it has the most perfect characters'character study. It's well written, really long (almost 600 pages!) and it exposes a new side of our lovely Mr. Darcy and I think many will find him a bit more 'in character' then in other stories...go for it and enjoy the time you'll have reading^_^

Re: Story recommendations

Thanks for the recommendation, Alexie. Can you tell us on which site we can find it?

Re: Story recommendations

Alexie, can you more specific? I am intrigued as to what side of Mr Darcy could have been bettered. But since it is so long a story it would be better if you advanced more details. Also its whereabouts... Thanks!!!!

Re: Story recommendations

Hola!Sorry for the oversight but I thought a quick use of google would do (forgetting how difficult it has been for me to reach it). Anyway, you can find Chance Encounters in the Meryton Assembly and here's the link

http://www.meryton.com/booknut/chancestorypage.html

it must be said that this story could be rated R so it is for 18 years old only. As for what I loved the most about this Mr. Darcy, it's simple: he's shy, insicure and horribly possessive and he loses nothing of the pride that J.Austen gave him but, all the same, the author lets you see exactly where he came from and one cant't help but love him all the more. As I've said, he's much more insecure that many would like and there are even some scenes in which he cries and Elisabeth or Colonel Fitzwilliam confort him. All in all he presents so many different faces that he seems ready to leap from the book and start living his life as a real man and not a fictional one. The most incredible thing other then that, is that Mr. Bennet, Col. Fitzwilliam, Elisabeth, Georgiana, Jane and Bingley are equally studied and thanks to the great lenght of the novel, there is no character left wanting of a perfect characterization. There are exactly 569 pages but I confess I started reading yesterday morning and was unable to stop until the evening when I finally reached the end. And the most incredible thing is that this afternoon I opened my pc again to reread some passages that were most beautifully written.
After this long review I hope many of you will take the time to start it but a word of advice: it's addictive!

Re: Story recommendations

Thanks Alexiel. That was more like it.

Re: Story recommendations

I'm glad to help :P

Re: Story recommendations

I recently gathered courage and started a modern WIP called "Sweet Lolita". Perhaps it has already been recommended here, I dunno. Anyway... At first I must confess I was deterred by the name and the fact that it is both a WIP and a modern intake. But I was most pleasently surprised. The story is extremely witty and hilarious. It does not contain explicit sex with minors as the title might suggest, though it is quite loaded with foul language. Darcy is exceedingly gorgeous but a real pain in the back.

“We’ll probably starve to death if you continue asking her about her wardrobe, Caleb(aka Bingley),” Darcy said in a bored, casual voice. He was still leaning against the doorway, his sweater gone, wearing just the button up white shirt, sleaves rolled up to his elbows.

He had very nice forearms.

And, with his shirt unbuttoned a little at the top, she could see his slender, defined throat, the curve of his Adam’s apple, his collarbone, the dip of his throat...SmileyCentral.com

She glanced up to his face; he knew that she was looking at him. He crossed his arms, and raised his eyebrows, a slight smirk gracing his lips. Oh yes, he knew he was gorgeous, and didn’t he have fun reminding her?

You can find "Sweet Lolita" here.It is updated with amazing frequency. I hope you enjoy my recomendation.

Re: Story recommendations

I just want to thank you for all your great recommendations. Since I found this section of Mrs. Darcy, I've been quite a frequent visitor to see what's going to be recommended next. I have truly enjoyed the stories you have all shared.

I'd like to make my own contribution to you all. I just finished a sequel to Bridget Jones Diary. For those Colin Firth and Mr. Darcy fans I think you may enjoy this one. As I read it, I could actually see Colin Firth and Renee Zellwegger come to life. I hope you'll give this one a try.

Re: Story recommendations

Thanks for the recommendations, ladies. Keep 'm coming! They're highly appreciated.

Re: Story recommendations

Not sure if this story has been recommended or not but I just finished "Brave New World of Toil and Trouble" by Beth M. I cried often. I think it's on DWG.

Re: Story recommendations

Good news from Rebecca E. This wonderful JA/FF authoress announced in her comment thread at Firthness that she's still working on her intriguing story "A Shade of His Character", one of Mrs. Darcy's all time favourites. She will start posting when it's finished though, so we will have to muster up some more patience. But rest assured it'll be worth the wait.

Re: Story recommendations

Oops, silly me, "A Shade In His Character" of course!

Re: Story recommendations

Oh, goody! Thanks for the news, Renée. Rebecca E's "A Most Convenient Mishap" is one of my favourite stories (up there in the top 5), but I've been reluctant to read "A Shade..." because it did not seem likely to be completed in the near future.

Very good news!

Mine too, Rori! Such a lovely prospect to be able to continue reading A Shade sometime.

Re: Story recommendations

Yes, I can't hardly wait!

Re: Story recommendations

Its not even my book and it makes me sick to see such reviews.

Coincidentally I read both your review and the one on AustenBlog today. You're definitely a fan but the poster on AustenBlog has objections that are as valuable, I think, as your arguments that are far more favourable. Like the French say: chacun à son goût.

Don't take this personally, love, Sara Angelini chose to publish her work officially, as a book. By having her work commercially distributed she aims for a larger audience - apart from trying to earn some money with it - and will just have to get used to the fact that she won't only have 'friends', which is the case when remaining a fanfiction writer for the fun of it, and publish your work for free online.

All authors - literary or otherwise - have either fans who rave about them or readers who think they're disappointing. I actually haven't read Sara's story myself, at least not entirely, but I have many friends in the JA fandom of whom some love it and others don't.

Re: Story recommendations

Actually the review at AustenBlog was not a review that I found offensive. I actually thought that review was very fair minded. And she had some of the same thoughts about some author's failings on modern interpretations. She just didnt like it as I did. And that's fine. Different strokes and all. The worst was actually another blog that I will send you the info on. I won't post it here because franky, I'd rather not give her anymore "air time." But yes, I am a fan of this book. I even state it in my review. (I think I first read TTotHFD at HG; then bought it over at Lulu or Amazon when she first self-published.) I have read and bought much of the self-published books to help support the fandom... Some treasures. Some not so much... thus, I do have a big pile of drivel in my attempts to support aspiring authors. But IMO, of course, Judge Darcy is in my "to be re-read" stack. Unlike some Sourcebooks that have been picked up, this book was re-editted a bit and I think the professional edits were very useful. There are a few adaptation books out there now that I have read (and bought unfortunately) that for me just don't cut the mustard. I do believe that when a writer sells their work, it should be worthy of the money exchanged. So often I am disappointed when I buy a "fanfic" book that hasn't been improved prior to publication. No wonder fanfic and their writers get a bum rap in mainstream reader-town. Someday I'll learn and stop buying every one that goes to print. But in my search, every now and then, I find a treasure. I cant' help it if I am excited when a fanfic book is picked up by a bigger publisher. Especially when TTotHFD is a favorite of mine-- like I have posted here in this very thread last year. Or maybe it was in the Darcy Favorite Line thread. No matter. I still enjoyed it. And am unabashedly enthusiastic about it.

PS-- I sent an email to Renee O. I hope it gets fwded on to Mrs Darcy. Thanks. ;)

It's the correct e-mail addy but I didn't receive your e-mail. Don't bother though, there are enough reviews I can find with the help of Google.

I understand that Wickham is totally absent in Sara's story. Quite frankly, that astonished me. That's alright for a Regency "what-if", IMHO, but if one claims to have written a modern P&P one cannot leave out a for the plot essential character. One ought to follow the plot as closely as possible. Belén masters that skill admirably, for instance, and Tracey.

Well, I don't know the story, so I cannot judge. If it gave you so much pleasure, I'm sure it must have interesting elements.

Re: Story recommendations

My email also asked if there was some way you could delete my last name from my original post regarding this review? In all my posts I've never had it show up, and I dont know what I did this time to make it appear. If you have to delete my entire comment or thread, do so please. Its really of no consequence. Thank you in advance. Yes, I whole heartedly agree. Belen and Tracy are very gifted-- some of my favorite writers, as I've squealed about on many previous postings. 8)

Re: Story recommendations

Christina
Sara Angelini's The Trials of the Honorable F. Darcy has been re-released by Sourcebooks and you can get it at Amazon (thru link at this website even!)

Anyway, I wrote a review at

http://austenprose.wordpress.com/2009/10/04/the-trials-of-the-honorable-f-darcy-by-sara-angelini-–-a-review/

if you care to read my review and "rate this missive."

Apparently other blogs ahve run the book down stating it is fanfiction smut and not canon, bla, bla, bla. Its not even my book and it makes me sick to see such reviews. The professional edits made it a more cohesive, stronger novel and even a couple of added scenes were a bonus. Just thought I'd share. 8)

Unfortunately I can only delete posts, not edit them, Christina.

Re: Story recommendations

Thank you. And so sorry for being such a troublesome bother. Have a great day.

Hi. I've just started reading this fic yesterday. It's really good and I cant stop reading. But the website only have it up to chapter 6, the other links seem to be broken. So I was wondering if someone has it and could maybe send me the other chapters, if possible?

Thanks.

There aren't anymore, Carol. Rebecca is working on it, we will just have to be patient.

I did. Excellent fic, one of my favorites too. I read it before I started reading ASIHC, thanks to this topic btw

Re: Story recommendations

Hey,

Just thought I would let you know about a great fic that I read recently over at DWG - can't believe that I had missed it for so long! It's a modern and all you boaties out there should love it as Lizzy is a mate on a yacht that runs educational programmes for college students.

It's by Lu and called "The Call of the Running Tide". You can find it at http://www.austen.com/derby/lu1.htm

Re: Story recommendations

I just finished reading an excellent story at A Happy
Assembly.
Fair Stands the Wind by MaxineB

It's an AU Regency about Lizzy and Fitzwilliam. He is Captain Darcy a Naval officer who meets Lizzy during a time his family is in need of a loving influence. It's very different from the story we've come to love but is just heartfelt.

I have to agree. I read this story as it was being posted and absolutely fell in love with Captain Darcy! I would highly recommend it!

Re: Story recommendations

I read Fair Stands the Wind over the weekend and really enjoyed it. I wanted to do a little editing , but there was nothing that could overshadow the clever twists of the stories. I marvel at the creativity of some of our beloved authors - where do they come up with brand new ideas like they do? This one was pretty remarkable regarding Captain Darcy's journeys in the second half of the story.

Well done Maxine B

Re: Story recommendations

I've read this story almost in a heartbeat and I would gladly recommend it! It's called In Loving Memory.
