Race for Life: important message from Mrs Darcy's author Sophie
"I'm running the Race for Life in June.
Myself and two friends are running to help raise money for cancer research. 5k is a long way for me to run (as in I usually run from the car to the door which is approx. 3m) but we're gonna give it a go and fingers crossed help to eradicate this horrible disease. If anyone wants to sponsor me, I do have an online sponsor form here
Thanks if anyone does sponsor us. Wish me luck! Pictures will follow, I guarantee."

I am happy to sponsor you, Sophie! What a great thing to participate in.
I was diagnosed with breast cancer in January, had a mastectomy in February and am now in the long haul of going through chemotherapy.
I think it's wonderful how many people are getting involved in Race for Life. I am going to attempt the Ribbon Walk (specifically in aid of breast cancer research) in June, provided I have the energy (it's a 10 or 20 mile walk, depending upon your fitness).
Good luck, and well done to you for giving it a go!!

Sandra, my dear, I'm so shocked, and feel so bad not to have been in touch for such a long time. You are in my thoughts, luv. To a certain extent I know what you are going through. My family has a long history of cancer, but fortunately those who had breast cancer all survived, as has a very good friend of mine. The treatment was hard, but she's well and without cancer for over four years now.
Lots of love

Best of luck, Sophie. Each year my girlfriends and I celebrate Mother's Day by participating in the Race for the Cure in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA. Tens of thousands each year join in to support this worthy cause. Anyone can participate, but it's truly a sea of pink as all the survivors don their pink shirts and caps.
Thoughts and prayer to Sandra - much cause for optimism these days! Take care...

Re: Race for Life: important message from Mrs Darcy's author Sophie
Thanks Sandra and Renée!
Just to let you know, I'm running this for a couple of reasons.
Two Christmas's ago, my father in law was diagnosed with lung cancer. Shortly after, my mum was diagnosed with breast cancer. She hid it from me during my wedding so I wouldn't worry. Little did I know the things my mum was going through until a few weeks later when she had a mastectomy. Luckily my mum is a survivor and has gotten through it all after it was caught early. Unfortunately for my father in law it was caught too late. He passed away last May.
I'm running this for Mum, Ken and all those people out there affected by this disease.

Goodness gracious, how awful, my dear Soph. I'm very sad for your father in law but very happy for your dear mother.
I'm sure you'll receive a lot of support for this important good cause.

Soph, I am so sorry to hear that you lost your father in law to cancer, but pleased to hear that your mum beat it. It must have been a very difficult time for all of you.
Renee, I am sorry too that cancer has affected your family so much. :(
Maura, that sounds wonderful! I'm hoping for something similar in June on the Ribbon Walk. I believe there are usually a lot of pink bras about, even on the men!
I have great admiration for everyone who participates in or contributes to fund raising, as every little helps towards finding cures, developing new treatments, and caring for patients and families of those affected by these life-changing illnesses.
Thank you also for the good wishes, ladies! I am determined to beat it!

126 views and only two sponsors? Come on, ladies and gents, it's for a good cause, and Sophie's stories give us so much pleasure! To give the right example I'll add another fiver.

I did it!
Just gotten home from running - 44 minutes which for me is excellent. Feel as if I could do it all again.
Thanks everyone who sponsored me. It's very much appreciated and the money is going to an excellent cause.
Just gonna have to shave 15 minutes off my time next year.
