I've just finished reading a nice story over at DGW: "No More Tears", by Linnea Eileen, and I rushed here to recommend it.
I do not wish to give away much of the plot, but I will say that it deals with an arranged marriage. However, it is not presented in the common way (or, at least, not in the way I've grown to be accustomed to (and love) in fandom). Here, Elizabeth is not forced to marry Darcy against her will, rather they both agree to a marriage of convenience which will prove strenous for them both.
The story is well written and coherent. You will still find some of the usual exasperating decisions and wrong impressions, but, generally, they are brought about in a quite credible way. I found the thematic to be very adult (this is due to the treatment of themes and the psychological development of the characters, not to the presence of explicit scenes), and the situations and exchanges between characters are also very realistic. There is some amount of angst and a much larger amount of sorrow, but it is beautifully expressed and it is easy to see that all will eventually be well, so do not stay away because of it.
Should anyone want to have a peek, this is the direct link:
I'm not sure if this story has been recommended yet and I'm sorry if I'm repeating, but I'm in the midst of reading An Unforgiving Temper by Gail H. and am finding it very intriguing - lots of angst just so you know, but it has a very different premise than many I've read so that's nice.

I second Maura's recommendation . I read "An Unforgiving Temper" some weeks ago and it certainly has some interesting twists. It is very harsh at times though, and angsty, as she said. But what I especially remember is that the baddies are really vicious.
hi everyone:) first of all, thanks for all the recommendations! i love this thread and whenever i'm having trouble finding something to read, this is where i come.
i was re-reading an old favourite of mine and, as i don't think it's been recommended here yet, i thought some of you might want to check it out. it's an older story, so many of you have probably already read it, but for those who haven't, i highly recommend sofie's "pember lake". it's a modern take on p&p in which bella gardiner, an aspiring artist who's lost pretty much all there is to lose in life, moves away from home to take a job in pember lake elementary school, where a certain mr. d. fitzwilliam is working as the head teacher. naturally, all sorts of prideful and prejudiced trouble ensues:)
pember lake is hosted on several different sites, just go to the JAFF index and search by the author or the title:)
Sofie's stories are indeed fabulous. On this site you can enjoy "Up From the Ashes" and "Time of the Season". They're both modern. Very true to life, I love them.
Hi,
I just want to recomend Aydon's The Great Game!!! I usually don't like E&D having sex before marraige, but wow....what a story. It is diffinetly on my top 10 list of FF.
Thanks Ayden for such a passionate read. I love LOve and Angus...makes a good story in my book.
Just wanted to share a beautiful story I just spent the WE reading. Love and Other Accidents by Paperclipz over at ff.net. It is a very well written and realistic modern P&P. the plot is both original and faithfull to JA's, it's intense and witty. I especially loved how the author wove some very beautiful poetry in the text, made me discover a breathtaking piece by Margaret Atwood. definitely on its way to my hard drive.
It's not new, was completed in 2006, i stumbled upon it by chance and I don't remember seeing rec'ed before. hope you enjoy.
OK, so this one is a story in progress but it is so crazy good that I cannot keep from recommending it anyway. And it holds a certain appeal, to read it chapter by chapter and wait anxiously for another one. This is seriously one of the best stories ever. And funny, too. And excruciating and intense and.. ahh. Just read it.
I am wrapping up a wonderful P&P sequel called 'A Fitzwilliam Legacy' - you can find it here:

Beware that it is long so like me, you will likely start to feel that the characters are like old friends and you will dread the story coming to an end.

Just wanted to recommend a piece I just finished. It's called "A Fair Prospect" by Splatt. The plot is a "what if" Elizabeth and Darcy had been thrown together repeatedly in London right after Darcy's botched up proposal. It introduces a few interesting new characters and although the time frame of the story is short, about two weeks, the pace is fast and entertaining.
One might feel that the character's feelings undergo fairly quick transformations but the characterisation is convincing.
It's a long and really well written story alternating Elizabeth's and Darcy's points of view, definitely on the romantic side but, I felt, very enjoyable.
Also the story seems to based more on the 2005 film than the novel, It did not bother me.
you can find it at Pen and Ink if you have not read it yet:

Another rec, so soon after the last one but if you haven't read it yet you should REALLY read Juliet R's remarkable Miscommunication.
It's a modern, novel-length, P&P retelling with a rather inspired initial plot twist.
The characters will become so familiar that you'll be sad to leave them (luckily it will take you while to get there).
you can find it at AHA and in pdf format at the Pemberley Library.
Where can I find Pemberley library username and password? thanks!
Log in to AHA, go to the Messages, Announcements & Site Question thread, then scroll down to Cjoki's thread "The Pemberley Library - Login/Password"
The current one is listed and any changes or login problems would be there too I expect.
BTW, Thank you very much Cecilly for such a lovely endorsement!

Hi!
I want to recommend this story because it is so much FUN!!! It is PG-13 so far and it is a modern comedy.
You will have a very healthy dose of laughter every week and a good share of romance too.
Barbara is posting regularly and her muse is like Tom&Jerry - full with crazy ideas.
