SOME NEW YEAR CHEER ?
After five long years of tortuous negotiations with the EA to re-open the weir access it looks like their last excuse to keep the weir closed has been resolved. They had insisted on building a very tall, steel palisade fence on Odney Common, on the downstream side of the weir even though Stakeholders had previously all agreed that waist-high fencing was all that was needed to prevent anyone accidently falling into the weir channel.
Finally on the insistence of the Cookham Society, Parish and Ward Councillors, the EA recently agreed and have built the perfectly adequate and unobtrusive low fence.

There now seems no reason why the EA should not open the weir access now, allowing the public to enjoy those beautiful views around the lock that we have all missed for so long.
