Although a prior application for a crematorium on land to the south of Lower Mount Farm, Long Lane in Cookham was withdrawn at a late stage last year, it was resubmitted in December, see 25/03313/FULL.
When applications are submitted just before Christmas it means that fewer people notice and those who do have reduced opportunity to respond, with the last date for public comments being 14th January. Was this just a coincidence?
Our MP, Joshua Reynolds, published his letter of objection on 8th of January to help draw attention to the application. His objections are founded on: development of Green Belt land, the unsuitability of local roads for the high volume of additional traffic and unwelcome air pollution.
The operating hours of the crematorium will be 10am to 4pm on weekdays, with service time slots available every 60 minutes starting at 10:30am. 1,100 services per year are expected in the applicant's traffic management plan, which is an average of more than four services per working day, and could be even more if opening hours or service time slots were to change.
Thank you to the large number of people who did write in to express a view, despite the timing of the application.
