New Vanguard Self Storage site in Maidenhead set for September opening

A major new self-storage facility in Maidenhead is on track to open later this year, one year after plans for the site were first announced.

Vanguard Self Storage has confirmed that its new branch on Norreys Drive is scheduled for handover in August, with an official opening expected in September 2026.

The development will mark the company’s tenth location in England and represents a significant investment in the town.

The site, a former 50,000 sq ft office building, has undergone extensive refurbishment since plans were unveiled in September last year.

Works completed so far include a full internal strip-out, replacement of the roof and flooring, installation of new electrical systems and ventilation.

The excavation of two new lift pits and piling to the former atrium have also taken place, as well as the first fix of all the cabling for lighting, alarm systems, and access control.

Final stages of the project are now underway, with the company aiming to deliver a high-specification facility in line with its existing branches.

Once complete, the building will house around 660 storage units across three floors, providing approximately 40,000 sq ft of lettable space.

A standout feature of the site will be a restored de Havilland Vampire aircraft displayed in a triple-height reception area, continuing the company’s tradition of showcasing historic centrepieces.

Other facilities will include indoor loading bays, two 3.5-tonne Kone lifts, customer and staff facilities, and 24 dedicated parking spaces.

Security measures will feature individually alarmed and electronically locked units, 24/7 CCTV monitoring, automated sliding gates, and perimeter fencing.

The branch will also incorporate a range of sustainability features, including a 143 kWp solar installation, cycle parking, electric vehicle charging points and energy-efficient LED lighting, with the building designed to operate at net-zero.

The project is expected to create four direct jobs, alongside additional indirect employment opportunities for local businesses.

Managing director Will McCullagh said: "This facility represents a major investment in the local community, providing high-quality, secure storage solutions and creating new employment opportunities.

“We look forward to opening in late summer and to supporting the needs of the Maidenhead residential and business community.
