Your MP's update from Joshua Westminster and Politics

It’s been a significant month in Westminster, with major developments affecting both national policy and our local services.

I’ve continued pressing the Government on the need for real action on the cost of living, including cutting the cost of travel for people who rely on cars, buses and trains. My Liberal Democrat colleagues and I are calling for an emergency package to reduce fuel duty, lower bus fares to £1, and cut rail fares through the Treasury’s increased VAT receipts they’re receiving as a result of the increase in fuel costs.

I’ve also been urging the newly formed Thames Valley Integrated Care Board to take a proper look at reopening St Mark’s Walk‑In Centre. With over 97% of residents supporting the campaign in my health survey, it’s clear how vital this service is for Maidenhead. I’ll keep pushing for the Walk‑In to be restored so people can access care close to home.

Locally, I’ve raised serious concerns with Royal Mail about ongoing delivery delays. Reliable post is essential, and I’ve asked for clear answers on what’s causing the disruption and the steps that will be taken to fix it. I’ll share their response as soon as it arrives.

With Parliament in recess at the start of the month, I’ve had more time to be out and about across Maidenhead.

It was a pleasure to visit Larchfield Primary’s Year 6, where pupils asked thoughtful questions about politics and local issues. I also attended a fantastic movie and Q&A at the Eco Action Hub, discussing everything from sustainable transport to community energy.

I visited Maidenhead Gurdwara to join their Vaisakhi celebration, where I was warmly welcomed and truly inspired by the spirit of Seva, with volunteers selflessly serving others, and the incredible sense of joy and togetherness that filled the Gurdwara throughout the day. And I rounded off the month at the Scouts St George’s Day celebration at Braywick, a brilliant event showcasing the enthusiasm and dedication of our local scouting groups.

Thank you to everyone who has been in touch with me, whether to share your thoughts, support campaigns, or ask for help with a specific issue. Your feedback keeps me focused on the issues that matter most to our community.
