With Parliament back in session, we’ve continued scrutinising the Government’s plans for the months ahead. The Prime Minister's resignation has also had a big impact on national politics, and I hope that if Andy Burnham becomes the new Prime Minister, he will make the real change our country needs. We need to help our small businesses, help residents with the cost of living, and grow our economy. There are real measures that can be taken to do this, such as cutting red tape affecting our trade with Europe and ending the Employers’ national Insurance tax hike, which is really hurting small businesses.
There have also been many debates going on, from the cost of living and energy bills to the growing mental health crisis. I’ve been pressing Ministers to back stronger mental health support in schools and communities, and my team and I have been busy helping residents with casework, from resolving pension issues to securing long‑overdue licence renewals and pushing for long‑needed pothole repairs. The Community
It’s been a brilliant month across Maidenhead, with plenty of opportunities to meet residents and celebrate local community spirit. We joined the Holyport Fair, the Lions Duck Race, the Desborough Royals FC charity tournament and the Windsor & Maidenhead Community Forum Interfaith gathering. Armed Forces Day was marked with a moving flag‑raising ceremony, and I’ve enjoyed speaking with families, volunteers and community groups at each event.
I also teamed up with Ed Davey to take part in the Big Paddle Clean Up, joining thousands who have been out on the water across the UK to remove litter from their local waterways.
Here on the River Thames in Bisham, the local community do an amazing job keeping their stretch of the river clean, and it was great to take part in that.
But we also know that Thames Water were responsible for over 9,000 sewerage dumps last year. That’s why I’ve called out this scandal and pushed for harsher sanctions on water companies to stop sewage dumping so that waterways like these are safe and clean for everyone to enjoy.
