Re: The Eye of the Beholder by Ellen G

Ellen,

Yay, they are officially engaged! I have to admit I was a bit worried about Mr Bennet's reaction since he was such a fan of the Doctor, but all worked out! Great chapter of a fabulous story! I know this story is quickly coming to an end and I am already sad to see that happen. I have enjoyed this story so much, as well as all of your stories. You truly have a gift! Thank you so much for sharing it with us.

Re: The Eye of the Beholder by Ellen G

Hi Ellen
another beautiful chapter, everything is just perfect.
Many Thanks
Jo

Re: The Eye of the Beholder by Ellen G

Thank you, Ellen. I'm so happy for Elizabeth and Jane and, of course, Darcy. I'm glad he didn't let Wickham get to him. Thanks for the post. Cindy

Re: The Eye of the Beholder by Ellen G

Thank you, for another chapter! Wickham just couldn't wait to give his two sense about what she might feel about Darcy! Ha! Little did Wickham know of they have known each other! Great story! Oh yes, Bingley, finally! Courage to state how he feels on his Wedding!

Re: The Eye of the Beholder by Ellen G

I am so glad Darcy didn't put up with Wickham's nonsense. Wickham is indeed the one who should be pitied but he brought his troubles on himself. I am also happy that Bingley got off his bum and made his way back to Jane. This was a lovley chapter. Thanks, Ellen!

Re: The Eye of the Beholder by Ellen G

Yay! They are engaged! I am looking forward to the wedding and then some good lovin...If they are anything at all like your vignettes posted here, I am sure they will be worth the wait...

Re: The Eye of the Beholder by Ellen G

Ellen, I’ve loved this story (even when I’ve been cross with Mr Hampton, who am pleased you have redeemed and still hope will find happiness with Anne) all along, but these last few chapters have been so satisfying.

I liked how you put this:

QUOTE: The doctor is indeed a worthy gentleman, Papa, just not the one for me."

I also particularly liked in this one how you managed once again to include an element of the book into your writing, but in such a way that it blends perfectly with the new storyline you have created. Lizzy’s thoughts on wishing she’d told her father of Darcy’s existence and his resistance to the match initially are so cleverly and successfully blended into the original concept of that discussion – it was really well done!

And LOL Darcy wasn’t the only one to be astounded at Bingley’s reappearance, so was I!

Like others, I had longed to know what Darcy thought upon first seeing Lizzy, so thank you very much for giving us that satisfaction! Oh and how ironic that when the gentlemen call this time, the family rushes to Darcy to congratulate him, and Bingley feels the coolness of their reception! What a cleverly done twist.

I loved this:

QUOTE: It had been a particular wish of Darcy's to conduct Mr. Wickham to the wedding; their future mother-in-law thought it a lovely gesture of brotherly consideration on Mr. Darcy's part, but Mr. Bennet knew better.

LOL. Poor Mrs B, always destined to be half awake to the realities of the world.

A most satisfying chapter all round, and I loved the strong, confident-in-Elizabeth’s-love Darcy when he told it to Wickham straight. Hopefully that’s the last we have to endure of the slimy git (excuse my language, but I really can’t stand that man).

And finally, I have to agree with your other reviewers, though, Ellen. You strike me as a most prolific writer (as well as very talented) writer. Thanks for sharing your marvellous stories with us, and thanks as always to Renee for hosting! :D

Re: The Eye of the Beholder by Ellen G

Ellen,

Lovely writing:

"No, Wickham, you will not shake me; despite my physical imperfections, I have never been happier. It is you who should be pitied. You will never know more of a person than what you see on the surface, and you will never know true joy in marriage, though I shall wish your bride the best of luck, for she will need it."

Re: The Eye of the Beholder by Ellen G

Just got back from burying an old relative (97 years old) and found this chapter. The best restorative ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks!

Re: The Eye of the Beholder by Ellen G

Yes, the story has almost reached its conclusion, and I appreciate everyone who has hung in there through all the angst.

KarinDarcy: Please accept my condolences. I'm glad I was able to perk you up.

Tina: I am looking forward to the wedding and then some good lovin...If they are anything at all like your vignettes posted here, I am sure they will be worth the wait...
Funny, the rest of the story was PG13 and I still haven't really decided whether to go for broke -- and an R -- in the end. We'll see.

Re: The Eye of the Beholder by Ellen G

What a way to kickstart my Sunday morning, Ellen, with these wonderful updates !

Oh I so love your Darcy! He is the sort of Darcy i have always imagined, a man who knows what he wants and stays resolute. And look how he put down Wickham and gave Bingley a piece of his mind! What a MAN! Plus, his thoughts on Lizzy when he finally saw her...MMMMMmmmmmmm...lush, very lush and yummy!

I am in all anticipation to have a taste of Darcy's "fullest extent of his passion"

Re: The Eye of the Beholder by Ellen G

Oh, my, Gio, looks as if I'll have to do up the wedding night after all!

Re: The Eye of the Beholder by Ellen G

Oh, my, Gio, looks as if I'll have to do up the wedding night after all!

Yes, yes, yes, yes! Please do the wedding night!

Re: The Eye of the Beholder by Ellen G

Ellen, I have just found this story and am only to Chapter 10. And it is wonderful! Poor Darcy - his pride so wounded by his blindness, disfiguration, dependence on the kindness of others, jealousy of Dr. Hampton.

The irony of this, referring to his efforts to tamp down his amorous thoughts of EB: He would, at those times, need to remind himself of the difference in their circumstances. I hope she will never know of his abominable pride, because his accident has made their circumstances very different, but that is not what Darcy was thinking of at that moment.

I find the dreams touching - in his, he is never blind. In hers, she can never properly see.

Thank you for sharing, Ellen.
Carol

Re: The Eye of the Beholder by Ellen G

Chapter 11: Oh, the plot thickens! John Hampton is only two years older than EB, while his father is more than 2-1/2 times her age. Plus, the colonel is now on the scene and hasn't yet met EB. Fortunately or unfortunately, depending on whose interests are closest to your heart, Wickham seems to have turned his attention from EB to Lydia. Will he elope with her under her parents eyes?

Re: The Eye of the Beholder by Ellen G

Chapter 18: A detestable bargain offered by the manipulative Mr. H! And E only considers it because she loves D. Is H truly the only man in England capable of performing such an operation?

Re: The Eye of the Beholder by Ellen G

Welcome, Carol! So glad you're enjoying.

The story is now drawing to a close, and I hope to have the final chapter(s) ready soon. Stay tuned. Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Re: The Eye of the Beholder by Ellen G

Chapter 26, with which the story ends, has been posted, my dears. Enjoy, and don't forget to give Ellen some love.

Re: The Eye of the Beholder by Ellen G

Thank you Ellen for this endearing story! I loved the very last line too - very good! I know I've barely been commenting, but I've been reading each chapter avidly and have enjoyed this story very much, and I especially love the vision of Darcy a la The Hathaway Man with an eye patch. How fitting he'd want to see her in the daytime for their first time together, good job!

I can't wait to see what you have in mind for your next story!

Thanks again!

Julie L.

Re: The Eye of the Beholder by Ellen G

That was really lovely!

Thank you so much!

Re: The Eye of the Beholder by Ellen G

A most satisfying ending to a terrific story. I have loved every word of it and will read it again in the future with great pleasure.
Thank you so much for all your work,
JulietR

Re: The Eye of the Beholder by Ellen G

Thank you, Ellen, for a delightful read. The whole story was excellent, but this final chapter was most definitely the most pleasurable of all, with its combination of humour, happiness and resolution.

I particularly liked that you picked up on some of the things that Darcy’s temporary blindness had brought him – both the increased perception of his sense of touch, and the joy of reading aloud, having had that done for him.

I had wanted Anne to marry the doctor, simply because I wanted another life for her, but what you wrote was way better - the ending you gave them both was much happier and certainly much more fitting.

Anne getting one up on Lady Catherine was just perfection. The lines you had her deliver were hilarious – this being the first of many:

QUOTE: To Darcy's great delight, and her ladyship's astonishment, Anne spoke thus: "Do not be ridiculous, Mother."

Likewise, I loved this about Georgiana – it not only was LOL funny, but it also gave a picture of her character, and that’s just good writing on your part:

QUOTE: so she excused herself after dinner, pleading a headache, which, no doubt, would be arriving any moment now.

The whole description of the consummation of the marriage at the inn was sheer delight! Both sensuously written – you are a superb writer of intimacy, Ellen – and with such humour, it was the most fun thing to read.

QUOTE: Pemberley could wait; he could not.

LOL. Love it.

It was poignant that you had Lizzy look beneath the patch, especially her kiss and I really liked the tying up of the loose ends. A superbly tied up ending to a neat and stylish plot, and the closing line was perfection itself - to end on a line that reflects your story title was just plain brilliant!

This has been such a beautifully written, entertaining story, Ellen. I loved it very much, for its originality, its humour and overall its heart.

Thank you so much, and I can’t wait for another one from you as soon as you can manage! No pressure! ;)

Re: The Eye of the Beholder by Ellen G

Good old impatient Darcy ! I love every bit and especially when Lizzy kissed his scars. It was very thoughtful and nice of you to give both Anne and Hampton their own happy ending as well

One of my favourite stories this is, but all good things must come to an end....I hope to see more new works from you soon, Ellen! Or a vignette or two (or three hehehe...) .

Re: The Eye of the Beholder by Ellen G

That was simply wonderful. I really enjoyed this story and it ranks as one of my top favorites. Thank you for writing such a lovely story.

Re: The Eye of the Beholder by Ellen G

Ellen,

This has been a favorite of mine and I am so glad you shared it with us. What a lovely Lizzy and wonderfully frustrated Darcy.

Thank you, thank you, thank you and what's next?

Best,

Great story, Ellen. I enjoyed it very much, and want to thank you for not only including the wedding night in the final chapter, but also giving Anne a happy ending.

Hi Ellen
I have loved this story from the very first word to the last. I am so pleased that you were kind enough to share it with us. I do hope that you will share another wonderful story with us some time in the future. You have such an amazing talent for writing and you know what they say "If you don't use it, you will lose it".
Many Many Thanks

Re: The Eye of the Beholder by Ellen G

Ellen, the last chapter was so lovely. I am so glad you made Elizabeth see what was under the eye patch. Her husband needs to know she accepts and loves all of him. I am also glad Mr. Hampton & Anne were happy at the end. They both deserved that. Thanks for finishing this wonderful story.

Re: The Eye of the Beholder by Ellen G

Thank you for this wonderful, original story! I so look forward to re-reading it in its entirety. This has been such a delight and gift to look forward to! Many thanks for your dedication and for sharing your gift!

Re: The Eye of the Beholder by Ellen G

Well Ellen, you know this has been one of my favorite stories. I have mixed emotions about it coming to an end but I did enjoy this chapter very much. I loved the part where Elizabeth covered her eyes and Darcy took pity on her. Continue writing please and thanks you! Cindy

Re: The Eye of the Beholder by Ellen G

Hi Ellen,
I have to agree with my fellow fanfiction readers. It was original, sweet and most enjoyable. Thank you for your time and creativity. I loved every chapter and now I am going to be selfish and ask when is your next story. Please continue writing.

Re: The Eye of the Beholder by Ellen G

Over? Over? Over? I do have to say...you wrote a great ending. Although I do wish for your story not to be over. I agree with the above comment...When is your next story? Please don't stop writing...I await for your next story. :)

Re: The Eye of the Beholder by Ellen G

Dear Ellen,

I have been terribly busy lately which is the reason I am so terribly late with a comment on the last chapter.

I have no words – fabulous, great, touching, lovely, funny. Thank you so much!

I loved Elizabeth’s and Darcy’s tête-à-tête in – very hot and very, very funny I have thought of nothing else. In truth, he had many times thought of others things

I loved his talk with Lady Catherine – Be careful, madam. That is my future wife you are speaking of.
I loved when Anne opposed her mother. Well, well, well – clever girl.

Hard to choose my favorite part of this chapter – maybe it was: Pemberley could wait; he could not.

Or when she has seen all of him. Very touching.

You gave us Ellen incredible and great story here. Thank you so much!

Thank you, thank you, one and all.

As for what's next, well, I promised myself a hiatus to catch up on my other responsibilities. After that, maybe a final prequel to "The Lesson," when the time is right.

Big kiss to everyone!

Re: The Eye of the Beholder by Ellen G

Not too late, I hope, to tell you very much I enjoyed this story - so much cleverness woven throughout and so true to the Darcy and Elizabeth we all love!

Well done and you have indeed earned a hiatus!

Re: The Eye of the Beholder by Ellen G

Never too late, Maura. I appreciate your kind words.

Re: The Eye of the Beholder by Ellen G

Thank you, Ellen! This is a wonderful story and I'll enjoy reading it again and again (without the cliffhangers)!

Gratefully,

I would like to thank you Ellen for a beautifully written story with just the right elements of angst and happiness without being too sickeningly sweet or completely out of character. In other words you have a rare accomplishment here; a truly enjoyable story with a really satisfying ending.
