The Indy 500 was very important to my dad - who sold cars during a career where cars were very important to him. Every Memorial Day, we would wake up to warm up laps and chatter on the radio - I didn\'t see the race in the early years - but listened on the radio. At 13 years old, I had been watching the 500 on TV for some time. I was very into the technology, and even met Parnelli Jones once in my small town. Swede Savage was fast - very fast, and a talented driver. That year shocked me in many ways as it did so many. We remember Swede as a hero and a great driver. God speed - Swede - and to his family: He\'ll be remembered always. |

As a kid, growing up reading the various magazines, I caught onto Trans Am racing.... I was and still am a Mopar freak.. Swede drove the AAR Cuda\'s with Dan Gurney.. Swede was one of the very select few drivers that I wanted to be when I grew up and started to drive race cars !! Swede Thank You for being a role model |
