Re: The Eye of the Beholder by Ellen G

*swoon*faint*thud*

Oh, oh, oh, to be ravished by Darcy's fingertips!

That was simply a divine sequence...the beautiful dream, the nightmare of a faceless Lizzy, which drove him to need to "see" her and "kiss" her. So now when he dreams of her next, he'll be able to kiss her beautiful face.

SO well done, Ellen; I loved all your nuances - that he smelled good, that he felt her breath on his fingers, that her pulse quickened. No doubt, Lizzy will have some dreams of her own now...?

Phooey on Hampton. You're not wanted here. So do your thing, man, and let Ellen write you "off."

Looking forward to (lucky?) ch 7!

Re: The Eye of the Beholder by Ellen G

Renee & Ellen

My humble apologies I seem to be on ff overload!

Ellen...I truly meant every word!

You're both great authors and I thoroughly enjoy all your works!

Frances

Re: The Eye of the Beholder by Ellen G

Frances, I was and am totally flattered

Re: The Eye of the Beholder by Ellen G

That was very nice, especially the touching. No wonder Lizzy felt it was a sensual experience. The good doctor needs to find a lady his own age and leave Lizzy alone. Actually Caroline might do very well for him. Thanks for the chapter, Ellen. Very enjoyable!

Re: The Eye of the Beholder by Ellen G

Ellen,

so glad you're back. I hope you had wonderfull holidays.

In my very first post I asked when Darcy, whose senses - other then look - are more sensitive now will show us if it is only hearing and smell. Now we know that it's touch as well. So we're left with question if taste is also oversensitive now. I wonder, what he could taste to convinced himself if it apllies to all 4 tastes which are left for him at the moment. I have few hints in my had

Re: The Eye of the Beholder by Ellen G

Ooops, I meant I have few hints in my head.
I've got to improve my English. Posting comments and especially reading PPFF is the best way I know.

Re: The Eye of the Beholder by Ellen G

Translator waving at you, Basia! The mistake you made is a typical native speaker mistake, just like they're instead of their for instance. So you can be very proud!

And I agree with you, reading FF helps improve your skills enormously, just like posting messages in forums.

Re: The Eye of the Beholder by Ellen G

Ellen G, THANK YOU for that chapter. Such a sensual experience, my heart was beating faster (along with L+D) as I read every single word. *sigh*

Re: The Eye of the Beholder by Ellen G

EllenG,

Sensual, original, suspenseful__wonderful story!!

I came back today and re-read the new chapter. Well, admittedly, my purpose in returning to your story was to see if you wondrously & compassionately posted 4-5 more chapters because I am frantic for more. Gah!

Re: The Eye of the Beholder by Ellen G

A great big THANK YOU to all who responded. I seem to have touched a nerve (no pun intended) with that chapter.

Oh, oh, oh, to be ravished by Darcy's fingertips!

Exactly! *sigh*

Re: The Eye of the Beholder by Ellen G

Really, Ellen, what a fascinating scene (lovescene?)!
So delicately written, so very filled with repressed desires...thank you and congrat!
Sheila

Re: The Eye of the Beholder by Ellen G

Very excellent chapter, Ellen. I enjoyed the 'touching' scene, but I also liked Darcy's dream. The first part of it was so loving, it made me want to swoon. Nobody seems to have mentioned it so far, so I thought I would. :)

Re: The Eye of the Beholder by Ellen G

The good doctor finding something essential in Lizzy!? tsk tsk. Poor Darcy is alreay suffering so much. Perhaps Charlotte can marry a doctor. On a more serious note, thank you so much for a wonderful chapter, Ellen. All of it was fantastic. I am so excited and I can't wait until you are able to post more chapters! Hopefully I can survive through the very probable angst.

Re: The Eye of the Beholder by Ellen G

Oh Ellen,

The scene with Darcy exploring Elizabeth's face was one of the most romantic and sexy things I've ever read. I was posibtively breathless by the end, wanting to scream KISS HER! (Of course, that could not possibly happen. Mr. Darcy is nothing if not proper.) What a delicious place to leave us!

I have admired your work for some time, but this piece has inspired me to delurk. Thank you for such a fabulous story and I anxiously await the next chapter.

Re: The Eye of the Beholder by Ellen G

Welcome, RuthO! I've seen a couple of new names on the forum, and I couldn't be more pleased!

And as for those "old" names -- well, I'm delighted that you're enjoying the story, too!

Thanks for your patience, everyone. Chapter 7 needs to be polished a bit. But I'm getting there!

Re: The Eye of the Beholder by Ellen G

Ellen G, Love your story. It looks like Darcy has a little competition with the good Dr. Even though Darcy is wallowing in self pitty I can't but feel a little sorry for him. Again Great Work.

Re: The Eye of the Beholder by Ellen G

Ellen, I just caught up on this intriguing story. What a tender scene where Darcy "sees" Elizabeth's face!

Abigail

Re: The Eye of the Beholder by Ellen G

Darlings, chapter 7 is up. Enjoy!

Re: The Eye of the Beholder by Ellen G

I knew the old doctor couldn't be trusted! I'm so glad Lizzy isn't too excited about him and still remembers Darcy's touch. The doctor is going to cause more trouble once he sees that Lizzy and Darcy are taken with eachother! Great story!

Re: The Eye of the Beholder by Ellen G

Why, that old rascal! Shame on him! He has underestimated Elizabeth if he thinks she is some shrinking miss easily repulsed by a physical flaw. He isn't really a bad man because he has made several attempts to determine if Mr. Darcy had any real interest in her, but...I'm very disappointed in Mr. Hampton. I look forward to Elizabeth surprising him.

Will Hampton's sharing of his impressions of the Bennet family pique Darcy's interest further...that he might be willing to risk some social discomfort to be in Elizabeth's presence once more?

Can't wait for more, Ellen!!

Re: The Eye of the Beholder by Ellen G

"...she now saw a potential suitor of advanced years"

Am so glad that the chance meeting in the library has allowed Lizzy to develop this fuzzy warm feeling towards Darcy. So the doctor is now showing his wily tail! Someone has to inform or remind Darcy about the doctor's intention, perhaps Bingley can do the honour (since he clearly saw what is going on)??

Re: The Eye of the Beholder by Ellen G

Shame? There is NO shame...

All Is Fair In Love And War!!!

Re: The Eye of the Beholder by Ellen G

And here I thought the not-so-good-anymore doctor would only use fair methods (proud flesh, indeed ! hmph! and btw, thank you, I had to use the dictionary, had not yet heard about the term ! )
It seems that your Lizzy is less vain, Ellen, and has already a better glimpse of what is behind one's looks (no matter how bad they are or could be...).

I still hope the doctor will do Darcy a service in Wickham matter. After all, Hampton will see in him an even more valliant rival ! So he will have interest to counter his stories asap !
Oh, and I am just thinking... you'll have perhaps the horrid conversation during the Netherfield Ball between Lizzy and Hampton now ? Two flies with a hit ! She will learn the truth about Wickham (and D would be of course innocented) and her ...ahem....'suitor' would learn some interesting things as well....
There ! I solved some problems !

Thank you, Ellen !

Re: The Eye of the Beholder by Ellen G

*shaking head* Dr Hampton you are not behaving in a manner of a gentleman, sir. Just the fact that you feel the need to lie to her to gain an affection shows that you are aware of Darcy and Elizabeth's budding feelings. You should be ashamed of yourself! And now Mrs Bennet is aware to HELP him in his suit. Poor Liz, Poor Darcy.

Yet Darcy is his worst enemy. If he would just allow his pride just alittle vacation he will save his heart alot of agony.

Thank you Ellen, for the wonderful post.

Stacy

Re: The Eye of the Beholder by Ellen G

I dearly that Dr. Hampton is honourable enough to not break his Hippocratic oath where Darcy is concerned!

Although I understand his motives, he frightens me! And I don't want Lizzy to marry a man who could be her father!

Re: The Eye of the Beholder by Ellen G

Ellen,

I love this story. Sorry I haven't posted a response before, I just found the comments page!

I wonder if the the good doctor's plan will backfire! Lizzy seems like the type to bring wounded animals home to care for them. Darcy is quite the wounded animal here, especially after the proud flesh discussion---BTW I like the irony of that.

Looking forward to hearing what Hampton says about the Bennets---will he risk hurting Bingley just to keep Darcy away from Elizabeth. I hope not.

Re: The Eye of the Beholder by Ellen G

Ellen,

What a wonderful, but frustrating chapter. It was wonderful because the author has a great talent. It was frustrating because I don't like the good doctor. LOL Things are at the very beginning of this whole situation, but what would happen if Lizzy shot the doctor's attentions down? Would he take it out on Darcy? Darcy can't see, so how would he know if the doctor, all of sudden, stopped using the correct ingredients in his treatments? He could still make it look like he was trying, but it would all be a rouse? Hmmm? So many different scenarios are possibly, but I know Ellen, you won't disappoint!

Re: The Eye of the Beholder by Ellen G

I do like the doctor. I like him for Mary Bennet or Caroline Bingley. Hands off Lizzy, please. Wouldn't he love to paint a horribly disfigured portrait of Darcy for Elizabeth? I don't think that would stop her if she truly loved him. Thanks for the new chapter. Very nice as always!

Re: The Eye of the Beholder by Ellen G

I'm not caring for the Dr so much at the moment. Perhaps what goes around comes around. It's encouraging that Lizzy still remembers Darcy's touch and finds the Dr's wanting.

Re: The Eye of the Beholder by Ellen G

It's encouraging that Lizzy still remembers Darcy's touch and finds the Dr's wanting.

I'm definitely holding onto that too, Wendy!

I'm pretty certain, dear Ellen won't have us suffer forever...

Re: The Eye of the Beholder by Ellen G

Oh Ellen, i am loving your new story very much! Just a thought on the doctor and how he is taking advantage of the situation to press his suit etc. This could very well backfire on him you know? Some women like to rescue men, their Florence Knightingale complex in full bloom. Lizzy might come to feel a bit of pity for Darcy which of course could turn into tenderness etc. Of course we know Darcy can easily ruin it by opening his mouth.

Re: The Eye of the Beholder by Ellen G

Chapter 8 is up, dear readers. Mrs Darcy's head over heels with Ellen's Mr Darcy ... Good lord, who wouldn't want to take this man in his arms and cherish him forever ...However, he has competitors and one of them is a person we can really do without!

Enjoy!

Re: The Eye of the Beholder by Ellen G

Renée, ma copine, you couldn't be more right !

Here she is: the shallow Elizabeth, so easily impressed by a handsome face and easy manners. And I fear to think what she'll do when he opens his mouth as well !
All thoughts of Mr. Hampton, and what there were of Mr. Darcy, fell away under the warm gaze and dazzling smile of Mr. Wickham.

But then it come again to my mind that this is why we needed the good doctor (yes, I know I repeat this theory as a one track record ) - to set Elizabeth right in her first impressions of Wickham.

I liked her dream ! If only she would trust the messages her body and her secret thoughts send to er...

As always, Ellen, the perfect little gift to accompany my morning coffee ! Thank you !

Re: The Eye of the Beholder by Ellen G

I know I'm probably alone in this but I would be perfectly happy with the story without Wickham. How possibly smart Lizzy could ever like him? I think in the original PP Lizzy was ready to believe his lies, at least partly, because she was already angry with Darcy. And she wanted to believe Darcy was guilty all charges. But here... Oh, why does she get so excited about Wickham? Who is more blind at the moment - Darcy or Lizzy?
Thank you for another wonderful chapter.

Re: The Eye of the Beholder by Ellen G

Oh, why does she get so excited about Wickham?

Basia, I've got this feeling that Ellen has a much more handsome Wickham in mind than Adrian Lukis who played him in the BBC series. I thought that a stupid casting decision! I have never been able to find anything attractive or credible about that man, and that's contrary to how he's been described in the book.

Anyway, let's just hope that she will come to her senses, I so crave happy endings! hint hint...

Re: The Eye of the Beholder by Ellen G

Thanks Ellen for another great chapter. I am getting anxious for something MORE to happen between Darcy and Elizabeth. Unfortunately, I'm afraid that it might be something disastrous and of course, it's probably going to involve Wickham. Thanks, Cindy

Re: The Eye of the Beholder by Ellen G

Ah..this Darcy is such a thinker, constantly plotting his ways to gain information !

Now with a 3rd suitor possibly for Lizzy, one that is definitely not trustworthy, I hope someone or some incident will open her eyes to his true self. Perhaps Darcy could be of service?? But if the doctor is the one, then my only fear is that Lizzy will gradually fall for him!

Re: The Eye of the Beholder by Ellen G

I am thinking ... how could actually Wickham know about Darcy being there ?
And if he doesn't know, he wouldn't start maligning his name. So he is only 'charming'... therefore the good doctor, trying to dissuade Elizabeth in considering Wickham as a possible 'admirer', could tell her some stories about Wickham... (if only he knows !).

Darcy could be quite spared this time...LOL
Or even gaining some points !
I like this plan !

Re: The Eye of the Beholder by Ellen G

Good point Mihaela! Why would Wickham randomly start saying stuff about Darcy. And even if he did, that would really look more weird to Elizabeth since she really doesn't think bad of him yet. This is greatness Ellen! Thanks for another chapter so soon.

Re: The Eye of the Beholder by Ellen G

Thanks to all who responded!

As for the necessity of Wickham, Basia, well, physical beauty or the absence of it or the inability to perceive it is at the heart of this story. Wickham is here in all his physical beauty as a counterpoint to Mr. Hampton's age and Mr. Darcy's presumed disfigurement. But we all know that beauty is "in the eye of the beholder."

And yes, Renee, I agree that Wickham, who is supposed at least as handsome as Darcy, should never have been played by that actor in the 1995 BBC miniseries. Ugh! I prefer the Wickham of the 2005 version.

Mihaela, you clever girl! Yes, it's true that in this situation, neither Wickham nor Darcy could be aware of the other's presence. Doesn't that make things more interesting?

Re: The Eye of the Beholder by Ellen G

I agree with Michaela however, wouldn't
Wickham use his story of woe and being abused at the hands of a wealthly arrogant man bring him some sympathy and gain the trust from the community that he needs even quicker? Wickham plays his cards well, and he uses every trick...not knowing that Daracy is in the neighborhood he would have no scruples spreading lies and deceit to suit his purposes. And if he is competing with the doctor, this would make him a more sympathetic suitor, since the doctor is a better "catch" due to his financial status. But, the question still remains...did Wickham give Lizzy attention because he really liked her or was he just "playing" at love to see how far he could compromise her? And why oh why can't Lizzy see this?!?

Loved the chapter...Darcy has to work twice as hard to form his opinions, and he's still not getting it right but at least he's trying to be impartial, although I can't see how he can even think of approving or objecting to Jane based on other people's observations...he'll need to "see" for himself.

Re: The Eye of the Beholder by Ellen G

I agree with Frances, the question IS was Wickhead only charming to Liz because he could see Darcy's affection for Liz? I mean with Darcy not in the picture Lizzy is just another pretty girl. And with Darcy being a private man would his physian actually know of Wickhead relationship with Darcy. I just don't see it.

I see the good Dr as older more amiable Mr Collins.
He really doesn't stand a chance but because he is a good man, Liz does see this, he is less revolting. I wonder what he will do when he see he has competition in a younger more handsome man other then Darcy? He has all ready tried to taint Liz's opinion on one man how will he do it with another?

I wonder if Darcy realizes that he actually helping Caroline's cause by making himself more available to her. He did spend the whole afternoon with her ALONE and he asked for her assistance. By sacrificing his feelings for Liz he is encouraging Caroline. We know his interest doesn't lie there but she doesn't.

Thank you for the post, Ellen!

Stacy

Re: The Eye of the Beholder by Ellen G

This chapter really highlighted Elizabeth's youth to me. She is displaying a toned down version of Lydia and Kitty's behavior in her vulnerablity to physical appeal. While she makes no pretense to herself that she is attracted to Mr. Hampton, she has admitted a powerful attraction to Mr. Darcy. Now a new face comes along and those other two gentleman are so yesterday's flavor.

Hopefully since Wickham doesn't know of Darcy's presence in the area he will leave that viscious tale untold, but he clearly has an advantage with Elizabeth in that she already thinks him the handsomest man of her acquaintance. She will no doubt be looking only for the best in him. Hoo boy....this is going to be interesting!!

Re: The Eye of the Beholder by Ellen G

Yes, Lizzy has had her head turned by a pretty face, but she's only just been introduced.

Lizzy sees the good Dr as amiable, but she also sees him turning to dust while she's still in her youth. Her subconscious knows how attracted to Darcy she is even if she doesn't want to think about it in the light of day.

How IS Darcy going to be able to meet up w/the Bennets and pursue Lizzy w/out the town at large knowing of his presence?

I'm enjoying your story, Ellen. Thank you for another fine chapter. Do you have an idea of how many chapters there will be? Just me being nosey.

Re: The Eye of the Beholder by Ellen G

Wickham! Ugh...no good can come of this. I wish Lizzy's family acted better but it didn't seem to discourage Dr. H. I hope Darcy comes up with a plan soon. Think, man! Thanks for the chapter, Ellen. I just can't figure out how you will make everything all better. You will make it all better, won't you?

TIME TO GIVE DARCY EYES TO SEE :) The Eye of the Beholder by Ellen G

Ellen,

GAH! Darcy needs eyes that work when Wickham is on the loose :)! Pls give Darcy back his eyes; he needs to step into the fray amd make some moves.

STEVIEB

Re: The Eye of the Beholder by Ellen G

Do you have an idea of how many chapters there will be?

Wendy, as with all my stories, there will be exactly as many chapters as there need to be!

You will make it all better, won't you?

Lucy, have I ever let you down before?

But, the question still remains...did Wickham give Lizzy attention because he really liked her or was he just "playing" at love to see how far he could compromise her? And why oh why can't Lizzy see this?!?

Frances, at this point we really don't know how much attention Wickham will pay to Lizzy. After all, they've just been introduced. And as for her attraction to him, well, I seem to remember that when I was 20, I was easily charmed by a handsome face! (Wait...maybe I still am!)

Re: The Eye of the Beholder by Ellen G

Oh I was determined NOT to start another WIP, but I just couldn't resist... and now of course I am completely hooked! More SOON PLEEEEEEEEEASSSSSSSSE

Re: The Eye of the Beholder by Ellen G

Trixiara, my dear, never fear, Ellen is a very constant author! Moreover, she never disappoints, quite on the contrary!

Re: The Eye of the Beholder by Ellen G

Renee, thank you for your constant support. I assure you, your trust in me is not misplaced.

Welcome, Trixiara! As always, I promise to finish what I start. But patience is, as they say, a virtue.
